Abstract

Modern bireyin varlığıyla beraber gelen sorunları karşısında iki esas tavrı vardır: Sahici olmak, sahici olamamak. Sahici olmak, irade ve kararlılık gerektirdiği için modern gündelik yaşamda fazla tercih edilen bir tavır değildir. Öte yandan birey, sahicilik bağlamında arada kendisini kendisinden başka denetleyecek müessese olmadığı için bedeli daima ağır olan sahici olmak yerine daha kolay olanı yani sahici olmamayı tercih etmekte; herkesleşmenin sıradanlığı içinde hemen hiçbir sahici tavır geliştirmeden sorumluluğunu ötekilere yansıtıp dünyanın düzeltilmesini beklemektedir. Bu yazıda Orhan Pamuk’un Yeni Hayat romanı ele alınmış; romanın asıl kişisi Osman’ın şahsında, modern bireyin varlığı ve varlığı-nın kaygıları karşısındaki tavrına işaret edilmiştir.

The modern individual has two main attitudes to-wards the problems rooting from his existence: Being authentic or not. As it necessitates the willpower and determination, the attitude of being au-thentic is not a commonly preferred one. Furthermore, as there is no insti-tution to check a person with respect to authentic expect himself, he pre-fers being inauthentic to being authentic which is always a heavy price; in the mediocrity of resembling to everyone, he doesn‘t develop any au-thentic attitudes and reflecting his responsibilities to others, he waits for he world to be amended. In this article, Orhan Pamuk‘s novel New Life was handled; the attitude of the modern individual towards his existence and worries of his existence was pointed out by using personality of Os-man who is the main character of the novel.
