Herbert Marcuse ve Erich Fromm'da modern insan ve modern toplum

Abstract

ÖZET Bu çalışmanın amacı, Herbert Marcuse ve Erich Fromm'un modern insan ve modern toplum teorilerini karşılaştırmaktır. Bu amaçla iki düşünürün teorik arkaplanlarını kendilerine borçlu oldukları Marx, Freud ve Weber' in teorileri ile bir süre her ikisinin de üyesi olduğu Frankfurt Okulu'nun entellektüel çerçevesinin değerlendirilmesi çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Bu çalışma, literatür çalışmasına dayanan karşılaştırmalı bir yöntemle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın bulguları şöyle özetlenebilir: Her iki düşünür de kendi teorilerini aşağı yukarı aynı entelektüel miras üzerinde inşa etmiş olmalarına rağmen, farklı tarzlarda söz konusu öncülerin, kendi özgün bağlamlarında ele alındıklarında, modern insan ve modern toplum hakkındaki görüşlerinin, çağdaş insani durumu açıklamakta ve değiştirmekte yetersiz olduğu sonucuna varmışlardır. Bu sebeple her ikisi de bu yetersizlikleri ortaya koymaya, bunları ortadan kaldırmak için kavramlaştırmalan ve içerikleri arasında bir sentez yapmaya, bunların kavramlarını yeni şartlara uygulamaya ve çağdaş durumu açıklamaya ve değiştirmeye katkıda bulunmak üzere yem iç görüler ve kavramlaştırmalar geliştirmeye çalışmışlardır. Bu bağlamda, yabancılaşma kavramı her ikisi için de son derece önemlidir. Başlangıçta, Frankfurt Okulu'nun yaklaşımından etkilenmiş ve bu yaklaşımı kullanmış olmalarına rağmen zamanla bu yaklaşımdan değişik biçimlerde farklılaşmış ve Okul'dan ayrı düşmüşlerdir. Her iki düşünür modern toplumun sorunlarını çözmek için farklı öneriler getirmişlerdir. Marx'a bağlı kalarak Marcuse, başlangıçta modern toplumun yapısında içkin olan sorunların, Marx' dan farklı olarak, proleterya tarafından değil öğrenci hareketleri tarafından gerçekleştirilecek bir devrim aracılığıyla çözülebileceği görüşünde olmuştur. Fakat zamanla devrimci çözüm konusunda umudunu kaybetmiş, kötümser bir konuma ulaşmıştır. Fromm ise şiddete yol açacağı düşüncesiyle sorunları çözmek için devrim fikrine karşı çıkmıştır. Ona göre sorunlar ekonomi, siyaset ve kültür alanlarındaki dönüşümler aracılığıyla çözülebilir.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to compare the theories of Herbert Marcuse and Erich Fromm on modern man and modern society. For this purpose, it was included the evaluation of the theories of Mare, Freud and Weber, to whom both thinkers were indebted their theoretical backgrounds; and the intellectual framework of Frankfurt Scholl of which both were the members for a while study has realized with comparative method through a literature review. The findings of this study can be summarized as such two. Although both thinkers constructed their theories roughly speaking on the same intellectual inheritance, they reached in different ways the conclusion that those fathers views on modern man and society were insufficient as taken in their own original contexts, in explaining and changing the contemporary human condition. For this reason, both tried to put forward those insufficiencies, for eliminating them, to make a synthesis among their conceptualisations and contents, to apply their concepts to new conditions, and to improve new insights and conceptualizations in order to contribute to explaining and changing the contemporary condition. In this context, the concept of alienation has been highly important while, for both. In the very beginning, they both were affected by, and made use of Frankfurt School's approach, they differentiated from this approach in different ways and became separated from the Scholl, at the very last. Both thinkers have offered different propositions to solve the problems modern society. Marcuse, at the beginning by turning on Marx, was of the opinion that the problems intrinsic in the structure of modern society can only be solved through a revolution, differently from Marx, not by proletariat but by student movements. But, in the course of time, he sank into despair in revolutionary salvation and arrived at a pessimistic position. Fromm, however opposed the idea revolution in order to solve the problems, on the opinion that it would result violation. According to him the problems can be solved though the transformations in the spheres of economics, politics and culture. n
