| dc.description.abstract | Bu çalışmada Nobel Edebiyat ödüllü ilk ve tek Türk yazar olan Orhan Pamuk'un 2003 yılında yazdığı "İstanbul-Hatıralar ve Şehir" adlı eseri ve bunun Savaş Demirel, Valérie Gay-Aksoy ve Jean-François Pérouse adlı çevirmenler tarafından 2007 yılında yapılan "Istanbul-Souvenirs d'une ville" başlıklı Fransızca çevirisi ele alınmıştır. Çalışmaya konu olan Türkçe eserdeki kültürel unsurların Fransızca çevirisi genel çeviri stratejileri açısından incelenmiştir. Pamuk, anı türünde yazdığı bu kitabında çocukluğundan yirmi iki yaşında romancı olmaya karar verdiği güne kadarki süreyi, o dönemin İstanbul'unu ve kendisinin şehirle kurduğu bağı anlatmaktadır. Eser yazarın kendi anılarını, düşüncelerini ve hayat hikayesini anlatması bakımından otobiyografi özelliği taşırken, İstanbul'un tarihi olaylarını, sokaklarını ve insanlarını anlatmasıyla da biyografi özelliği taşımaktadır. Yapılan bu çalışma ile Türk kültürüne ait unsurları tanımak, bu kültürel unsurların Fransızcaya çevirisi esnasında çevirmenlerin başvurdukları çeviri stratejilerini belirlemek ve belirlenen stratejilerin çeviri sürecinde yeterince açıklayıcı olup olmadıklarını incelemek hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmanın giriş bölümünde tezin konusu, amacı, önemi, kapsam ve sınırlılıkları, yöntem ve veri toplama ve çözümleme teknikleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Birinci bölümde çeviri ve çeviribilim tanımları ile çeviribilimin araştırma alanları ve inceleme konuları ele alınmıştır. Ardından çeviri kuramları ve belli başlı araştırmacıların çeviri anlayışları üzerinde durulmuştur. İkinci bölümde dil, kültür ve çeviri ilişkisi, kültürel unsurlar ve bu unsurların çevirilerinde kullanılan stratejiler incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde ise "İstanbul-Hatıralar ve Şehir" adlı eser ve Fransızca çevirisi ele alınmıştır. Bu bölümde, eserin konusu ve yazarı olan Orhan Pamuk ve Fransızca çevirisi ile ilgili bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Eserde yer alan 110 kültürel unsur saptanmış ve bunların Fransızcaya hangi stratejilerle aktarıldığı ele alınmıştır. Dördüncü bölümde ise elde edilen bulgular üzerinde durulmuştur. Yapılan incelemeler sonucunda çevirmenlerin kaynak metindeki anlamı erek metinde sağlamak amacıyla kaynak metni önceleyen bir çeviri yaklaşımı benimsedikleri ve kaynak metindeki kültürel unsurların anlamsal içeriğini korumak amacıyla aynı anlamı içeren ifadelerle aktarmaya çalıştıkları tespit edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra çevirmenlerin erek okuru ve erek metni de göz önünde tutan bir çeviri yaklaşımı benimsedikleri ve kaynak kültüre özgü bir ögeyi veya ifadeyi erek okur tarafından anlaşılabilecek öge veya ifadelerle değiştirdikleri tespit edilmiştir. Ele alınan örnekler çeviride kültürel farklılıklara dayalı sorunların dilsel farklılıklara dayalı sorunlardan daha zor olabileceğini ve çeviri yaparken kaynak ve erek dillerin yanı sıra kültürlerin de iyi bilinmesi ve anlaşılması gerektiğini ortaya koymuştur. | dc.description.abstract | In this study, the first and only Turkish writer with a Nobel Prize in Literature, Orhan Pamuk's work titled "Istanbul-Memories and the City" written in 2003, and its French translation titled "Istanbul-Souvenirs d'une ville", made in 2007 by the translators Savaş Demirel, Valérie Gay-Aksoy and Jean-François Pérouse, were discussed. The French translation of the culture-specific items in the Turkish work, which is the subject of the study, was examined in terms of general translation strategies. Pamuk, in this book written in the genre of memoir, describes the period from his childhood to the day he decided to become a novelist at the age of twenty-two, the Istanbul of that period, and the bond that he established with the city. While the work encompasses autobiographical elements, recounting the author's memories, thoughts, and life story, it also delves into biography by narrating historical events, streets, and people of Istanbul. With this study, it was aimed to identify Turkish culture-specific items, to assess the strategies that the translators applied during the translation of these items into French, and to determine the adequacy of these strategies in conveying the intended meaning. In the introductory section of this study, information about the subject, purpose, importance, content and limitations, methodology, and data collection and analysis techniques of the thesis was given. In the first section, the definitions of translation and translation studies, and research fields and research subjects of translation studies were discussed. Then, the translation theories and the understanding of translation of the main researchers were emphasized. In the second section, the relationship between language, culture and translation, culture-specific items, and the strategies used in the translation of these items were examined. In the third section of the study, the work titled "Istanbul-Memories and the City" and its French translation were discussed. In this section, information about the subject and author of the work, Orhan Pamuk, and its French translation was given. 110 culture-specific items in the work were identified and the strategies with which they were transferred to French were discussed. In the fourth section, the findings that were obtained were focused on. The findings reveal that the translators prioritize the source text, aiming to convey its meaning to the target reader by using expressions with similar meanings. Additionally, it has been found that translators adopt a translation approach that takes the target reader into account and the target text, and that they replace an element or expression specific to the source culture with elements or expressions that can be understood by the target reader. The examples demonstrate that cultural differences in translation can present more significant challenges than linguistic differences, and that cultures, as well as source and target languages, should be well known and understood while translating.
