The aim of this study was to determine which factors affect the success of first reading and reading teaching according to the views of primary school teachers and to make new suggestions for the issue. The research group of this study involved 25 primary school teachers working in the central primary schools of Kirikkale city and who were selected randomly. In the research semi-structured interview technique was used. The interview form contained 2 questions; 1- What are the factors affecting the success of elementary level literacy teaching? 2- What are your suggestions for improving the success of first reading and reading teaching? The face to face interviews with the teachers were recorded and the qualitative data gained was transformed into digital data and shown as percentage and frequency.
