Yerli sığır ırklarında serum ß-karoten düzeyi üzerine mevsim, yaş, gebelik ve laktasyonun etkisi

Abstract

Karotenoidler grubundan olan ß-karoten, A vitamininin ön maddesi olup, yeşil yapraklı bitkilerde yaygın olarak bulunmaktadır. Sığırlar ß-karoten sentezleyemediklerinden, ihtiyaç duydukları miktarın tamamını yedikleri ot ve yemlerden sağlarlar. Beta-karoten yetersizliğinin hayvanlarda birçok metabolik bozukluğa neden olduğu bilinmektedir. Yapılan literatür taramasında yerli ırklarımızda ß-karoten ile ilgili çalışmaların oldukça sınırlı sayıda ve kapsamda olduğu görülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, Adana ili Feke ilçesi ve köylerinde bulunan Güney Anadolu Kırmızısı (GAK), Çorum ili Boğazkale ilçe ve köylerinde bulunan Yerli Kara (YK) ve Edirne ili Enez ve İpsala ilçe ve köylerinde bulunan Boz ırk (BOZ) sığırların; 1-3 aylık buzağılarından, 12-24 aylık düvelerinden, doğum sonrası laktasyonun 1. dönemindeki ve gebeliğin son 2 aylık dönemindeki (Kuru dönem) çeşitli yaş gruplarının kış ve yaz mevsimlerinde alınan kanlar kullanıldı. Bu amaçla her bir gruptan 20 adet hayvandan kan örnekleri alındı ve elde edilen serumlarda HPLC yöntemi ile ß-karoten değerleri belirlendi. Her üç ırkın düve, laktasyon ve kuru dönemdeki serum ß-karoten düzeyleri yaz mevsimi serum örneklerinde kış mevsimi örneklerine kıyasla anlamlı derecede yüksek tespit edildi (P<0.05). Güney Anadolu Kırmızısı ırkına ait yaz mevsimi süt danası, düve, laktasyon ve kuru dönemdeki sığırların serum ß-karoten düzeyleri arasındaki fark anlamlı bulunurken (P<0.05), kış dönemi serum ß-karoten düzeyi ise sadece süt danasında anlamlı (P<0.001) farklılık gösterdi. +Yazın YK ırkı sığırların düve ve laktasyon döneminde serum ß-karoten düzeyi, süt danası ve kuru dönem hayvanlarınkinden anlamlı düzeyde yüksek (P<0.05) bulunurken kış mevsiminde sadece laktasyon dönemindeki hayvanlarda farklılık gösterdi. Boz ırkın ise yaz ve kış mevsimi süt danası ve düvelerinin serum ß-karoten düzeyleri, laktasyon dönemindeki hayvanlardan daha düşük (P<0.05) bulundu. Yapılan araştırmada belli bölgelerde yetiştiriciliği yapılan yerli sığır ırklarında mevsim, yaş, laktasyon ve gebelik durumlarının serum ß-karoten düzeyleri üzerine etkili olduğu gösterilmiş oldu. ß-carotene of carotenoid group, found widely in green leaved plants, is the elementary substance of Vitamin A. Since cattle cannot synthesize ß-carotene, they get their ß-carotene need from feedstuff and grass they eat. It is known that ß-carotene deficiency is the cause for many metabolic disorders in animals. In our local breeds there are limited numbers of ß-carotene studies. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of season, age, pregnancy and lactation on serum ß-carotene levels. Three local cattle breeds namely: South Anatolian Red (Kilis) raised in the Mediterranean region, Turkish Grey Steppe (Boz) breed raised in the Marmara Region and Anatolian Black cattle breed raised in the North part of Middle Anatolia region were used in the study. The cattle in every breed category were divided into four groups. The first group included calves of 1-3 months (n=20), the second group included heifers of 12-24 months (n=20), the third group included the cows in the first 10 weeks of lactation (n=20) and the fourth group included the pregnant cows in dry period (n=20). A total of 480 blood samples were taken from every breed and groups twice a year, once in summer and once in winter. The serums of the blood samples were frozen at -85 °C to be analyzed later by HPLC.The average ß-carotene level in the serum obtained from the Kilis Breed calves, heifers, cows in lactation and in dry period groups were 19; 675; 875; 251 µg/dl during summer and 3; 96; 86; 43 µg/dl during winter, respectively. The level from the Boz breed calves, heifers, cows in lactation and dry period groups were 56; 93; 195; 180 µg/dl during summer and 36; 45; 102; 16 µg/dl during winter, respectively. The samples obtained from the heifer, lactation and dry period groups of cattle in all three breads during the summer showed significantly (P<0.05) higher levels of ß-carotene compared to the samples obtained during winter. Summer season differences in serum ß-carotene levels of the GAK breed calves, heifer and the cattle on lactation period or on the dry period were meaningful/significant (P <0.05), whereas winter season differences in serum ß-carotene levels were meaningful/significant (P<0.001) only for the calves. Summer season serum ß-carotene levels for YK breed cattle, heifers and lactation period cattle were significantly higher (P<0.05) than those of calves and dry-period cattle furthermore in winter season only difference recorded was for the cattle on the lactation period. Summerand winter season Serum ß-carotene levels for BOZ breed calves and heifers were lower (P <0.05) than the lactation period cattle. It has been shown that seasonal, age, lactation and pregnancy conditions affect the serum ß-carotene levels in the native cattle breeds cultivated in certain regions.
