    Crystal structure of N-[(1Z)-1-(3-methyl-3-phenyleyclobutyl)-2-thiomorpholin-4-ylethylidene] thiourea

    The crystal structure of N-[(1Z)-1-(3-methyl-3-phenylcyclobutyl)-2-thiomorpholin-4-ylethylidene] thiourea (C18H26N4S2) has been determined by X-ray crystallographic techniques. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca, with unit cell parameters: a = 15.692(3), b = 20.803(8), c = 11.979(6)angstrom, Z = 8, V = 3911(7)angstrom(3). The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least squares to a final R-value of 0.084 for 1447 observed reflections [I > 2 sigma (I)]. In the thiosemicarbazide moiety, the S = C bond length is 1.656(6), N-C-N angle is 115.6(5)degrees. The crystal structure is stabilized by the intermolecular N-H... S hydrogen bonds.     Effects of Heat Treatment and Deformation on 2H and 18R Martensites in Cu-9.97 % Al-4.62 % Mn Alloy

    In this study, some physical and mechanical properties of martensitic transformation in Cu-9.97 % Al-4.62 % Mn (wt%) alloy were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and compression deformation test techniques. In SEM and XRD observations of Cu-9.97 % Al-4.62 % Mn alloy, two kinds of martensitic phases: thermally and deformation effect, and from DO3 parent phase, and the type of the produced martensite structures were noted.

    Electron microscopy study of 2H and 18R martensites in Cu-11.92 wt% A1-3.78 wt% Ni shape memory alloy

    The microstructures and the crystal structures of the beta(1)' and gamma(1)' martensite phases in Cu-11.92 wt% Al-3.78 wt% Ni shape memory alloy were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Samples subjected to two different heat treatments were analysed. In the alloy, two kinds of martensite phases were observed depending on heat treatment, and it was seen that the annealing time is effective on forming of these phases. The change between the 18R and 2H stacking sequences was investigated by diffraction technique. Further experiments revealed that the beta(1)' martensite structure is actually of the M18R type (modified 18R) monoclinic one with its beta angle very close to 90 degrees. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
