Öğe C- heterochromatin and Ag-NOR banding patterns of Allactaga williamsi Thomas, 1897 (Rodentia: Dipodidae) in Central Anatolia(Univ Oradea Publ House, 2010) Asan, Nursel; Toyran, Kubilay; Albayrak, İrfanIn this study, the conventionally stained karyotype along with C- and Ag-NOR banding karyotypes of Allactaga williamsi (Williams' jerboa) from Central Anatolia were examined. The species had a karyotype of 2n=48, NF= 95 in males and 96 in females, NFa=92. C-heterochromatin was observed in 18 biarmed pairs and in the Y chromosome. The nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) were located at the telomeric region of 3 autosomes.Öğe A common tortoise tick, Hyalomma aegyptium Linne 1758 (Acari: Ixodidae), identified on eastern hedgehog (Erinaceus concolor Martin 1838) in Central Anatolia(Scientific Technical Research Council Turkey-Tubitak, 2010) Gazyagci, Serkal; Asan, Nursel; Demirbas, YasinTicks are obligate blood sucker arthropods that infect animals and humans. A common tortoise tick, Hyalomma aegyptium, was collected from a young and an adult male hedgehog, Erinaceus concolor, from Central Anatolia in July 2008. More ticks were determined on the young one. This is the second record of tortoise tick that parasitizes a hedgehog.Öğe Cytogenetic study on the European brown hare (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) (Mammalia: Lagomorpha) in Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2010) Demirbas, Yasin; Asan, Nursel; Albayrak, IrfanConventional and GTC, CTC, and AgNO3 banded karyotypes of brown hares (Lepus europaeus Pallas, 1778) from Turkey are described for the first time. All specimens possessed a diploid number of 2n = 48 chromosomes and a fundamental autosomal number of NFa = 88. The chromosome set consisted of 8 metacentric and submetacentric pairs and 15 subtelocentric and acrocentric pairs decreasing in size from large to small. The X chromosome was a large submetacentric while the Y was a small acrocentric. In contrast with the other specimens, the Kilts specimen possessed a duplication in the long arm of one of the subtelocentric chromosomes. The G-banding pattern of the chromosomes was similar to that given for the genus. Variation was found in the C-banded karyotype and the distribution of NORs.Öğe G-banding karyotypes of Myotis myotis (Borkhausen, 1797) and Myotis blythii (Tomes, 1857) (Mammalia: Chiroptera) in Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2011) Asan, Nursel; Albayrak, Irfan; Yorulmaz, Tarkan; Inci, SinanThis study is based on the G-banding karyotype of 2 sibling bat species Myotis myotis (Borkhausen, 1797) (Greater Mouse-eared Myotis) and M. blythii (Tomes, 1857) (Lesser Mouse-eared Myotis) distributed in Turkey. G-banding karyotypes showed that the 2 taxa possessed identical G-banded chromosome arms. It was concluded that G-banded chromosomes are not sufficient as a diagnostic character for separating M. myotis from M. blythii.Öğe Karyotype and hair scale structure of Nannospalax leucodon (Nordmann, 1840) from central Anatolia (Rodentia : Spalacidae)(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2008) Asan, Nursel; Yagci, TubaThe karyotype and hair scale structure of the subterranean mole rat, Nannospalax leucodon (Nordmann, 1840), in Kirikkale province were determined. The diploid number, fundamental number, and the number of autosomal arms were 54, 74, and 70, respectively. The structure of the hair scale type was examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and was found to be serrate coronal, simple coronal, and erose coronal at the base, shaft, and tip, respectively. The chromosomal form and hair scale structure of the mole rat were recorded for the first time from Kirikkale province.Öğe A live trap model for subterranean mole rats(Walter De Gruyter & Co, 2007) Yağcı, Tuba; Asan, Nursel…Öğe Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in Cricetulus migratorius (Pallas, 1773) and Meriones tristrami Thomas, 1892 (Mammalia: Rodentia) from Central Anatolia(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2010) Asan, Nursel; Albayrak, Irfan; Demirbas, Yasin; Yorulmaz, Tarkan; Toyran, Kubilay; Gozutok, SerdarThe distribution of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in Cricetulus migratorius and Meriones tristrami from Central Anatolia was determined. In the karyotype of Cricetulus migratorius the diploid number, fundamental number, and fundamental autosomal number are 22, 44, and 40, respectively. The diploid number, fundamental number, and fundamental autosomal number of Meriones tristrami are 72, 84, and 80, respectively. In Cricetulus migratorius, NORs occur in the telomeric regions of metacentric and subtelocentric autosome pairs. Furthermore, terminally located NORs in metacentric and acrocentric autosomes of Meriones tristrami are presented in this present paper.Öğe Nucleolar organizer regions in Mesocricetus brandti (Nehring, 1898) (Mammalia: Rodentia) from the Yozgat and Tokat provinces of Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2012) Asan, NurselMesocricetus brandti possesses a diploid chromosome number of 2n = 42, a fundamental number of NF = 82, and a fundamental number of autosomal arms of NFa = 78. The chromosome set consists of 17 meta-submetacentric pairs, 2 subtelocentric pairs, and 1 acrocentric pair. The X chromosome is large and metacentric while the Y is medium-sized and metacentric. The nucleolar organizer regions were located at the telomeric region of 7 biarmed autosomes and at the centromeric region of 1 acrocentric autosome.Öğe Taxonomic status of Myotis myotis (Borkhausen, 1797) and Myotis blythii (Tomes, 1857) in Turkey (Mammalia: Chiroptera)(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2011) Asan, Nursel; Albayrak, IrfanMorphometrical, biological, ecological, and karyological data of 156 Myotis myotis and 149 M. blythii specimens collected from various provinces of Turkey between 1974 and 2007 were evaluated. Specimens from Turkish Thrace were referred to as M. m. myotis and the Mediterranean part as M. m. macrocephalicus. Specimens from the rest of Anatolia were assigned to an intermediate form. Due to a steady increase in body and cranial size detected in Myotis blythii from western to eastern Anatolia, we did not assign a subspecific name for the M. blythii populations in Turkey. In addition, body and cranial measurements of this species lie between those given for the smaller subspecies M. b. oxgnathus from Europe and the larger M. b. omari from the Near East and the Middle East. In both species, the karyotype was similar to that of the other Myotis species having a 44 chromosome with a NFa 50. The X chromosome was a medium-sized metacentric while the Y was a minute acrocentric.Öğe The tunnel structure of blind mole rats (genus Spalax) in Turkey(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2010) Yagci, Tuba; Coskun, Yuksel; Asan, NurselThe structure of the tunnels and burrows of mole rats (genus Spalax) was examined in Central and Southeastern Anatolia in the years 2002-2009. There are two types of mounds: linear ones and scattered ones. While a one-layer tunnel structure is observed in nearly all parts of Turkey, we also found three-layer tunnels, which were made in soft and moist soil. The tunnels made in moist soil were deeper than the ones made in hard soil. We found that mole rats blend the soil with their urine and produce a sticky mud with a bad odour in order to strengthen the walls of the opened galleries.
