Öğe Erratum: Expression profile and prognostic importance in prostate lesions of the reverse transcriptase component of human telomerase (hTERT) and of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p57 (p57kip2a) (International Urology and Nephrology 1007/s11255-008-9399-7)(2009) Atasoy P.; Yilmaz E.; Bozdogan O.; Ayva S.; Batislam E.[No abstract available]Öğe Giant dedifferentiated retroperitoneal liposarcoma: CT and MRI findings(Elsevier BV, 2004) Unal B.; Bilgili Y.K.; Batislam E.; Erdogan S.We present computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and pathologic findings of a 52-year-old female with a giant dedifferentiated retroperitoneal liposarcoma in which well differentiated lipoma-like and dedifferentiated components are found together. Dedifferentiated components of the mass showed various degrees of enhancement and revealed no suppression with fat saturation techniques. The diagnosis of dedifferentiated liposarcoma should be kept in mind when a mass is found with retroperitoneal localization, intense of contrast enhancement, calcifications, invasion of adjacent tissues, necrosis and haemorrhage, and the absence of fat suppression. © 2004 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Here, a case of a man who was diagnosed with end stage lung cancer and early stage bladder cancer was discussed with the interesting aspects. Despite the fact that the patient had a cough, weight loss and dyspnea which are the most common symptoms of lung cancer, hematuria was the main complaint that induced the patient to consult the doctor. The case is valuable for the review of the literature about multiple primary malignancies of squamous cell lung carcinoma and urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma. It is also important for reminding clinicians to keep in mind that smoking is the most important common predisposing factor for both lung and bladder carcinoma in this case.Öğe Seminal vesicle cysts causing hemospermia in adult polycystic kidney disease (APKD)(2003) Yilmaz E.; Başar M.M.; Tuğlud D.; Başar H.; Batislam E.Introduction: A 42 year- old man with adult policystic renal disease admitted to Urology out-patient with men hemospermia without any other symptoms. Result: After detailed evaluation including transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) and specific and nonspecific cultures, multiple seminal vesicle cysts were detected. After treatment with anti-inflammatory and antiboitics, hemospermi was resolved and did not recurrence in 6 months follow up.Öğe Simplification of laparoscopic extraperitoneal colposuspension: Results of two-port technique(2000) Batislam E.; Germiyanoğlu C.; Erol D.Purpose: The aims of the present prospective study were to apply a new simplification for Laparoscopic Burch Colposuspension and to assess the postoperative results of this treatment modality for stress urinary incontinence. Materials and methods: Twenty-four patients underwent simplified laparoscopic procedure via two ports, utilising endoscopic tacker and two stripes of prolene mesh. Patients were evaluated for operative time, duration of urethral catheter, length of hospital stay, complications and continence status. Results: The technique was successful in 21 patients after 24 months follow-up. Average operative time was 39 minutes. The lengths of urethral catheterisation and hospital stay were 22 and 45 hours, respectively. One operative complication and three postoperative recurrences were recorded. Conclusion: Laparoscopic bladder neck suspension continues to develop as the instruments and techniques are improved. In carefully evaluated patients, it provides safe and minimally invasive procedure. We report the results of a new technique to simplify and speed up a laparoscopic extraperitoneal colposuspension.Öğe Viburnum opulus: could it be a new alternative, such as lemon juice, to pharmacological therapy in hypocitraturic stone patients?(2014) Tuglu D.; Yılmaz E.; Yuvanc E.; Erguder I.; Kisa U.; Bal F.; Batislam E.OBJECTIVE: Citrate, potassium, and calcium levels in Viburnum opulus (V. opulus) and lemon juice were compared to evaluate the usability of V. opulus in mild to moderate level hypocitraturic stone disease.MATERIALS AND METHODS: V. opulus and lemon fruits were squeezed in a blender and 10 samples of each of 100 ml were prepared. Citrate, calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and pH levels in these samples were examined.RESULTS: Potassium was found to be statistically significantly higher in V. opulus than that in lemon juice (p = 0.006) whereas sodium (p = 0.004) and calcium (p = 0.008) were found to be lower. There was no difference between them in terms of the amount of magnesium and citrate.CONCUSIONS: Because V. opulus contains citrate as high as lemon juice does and it is a potassium-rich and calciumand sodium-poor fluid, it can be an alternative to pharmaceutical treatment in mild-to-moderate degree hypocitraturic stone patients. These findings should be supported with clinical studies.
