Öğe Distribution of constitutive heterochromatin and nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in Mustela nivalis Linnaeus, 1766 (Carnivora, Mustelidae) in Turkey(Firenze Univ Press, 2015) Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Demirbas, Yasin; Gozutok, Serdar; Karoz, Ayse MerveC- and Ag-NOR banding of the least weasel, Mustela nivalis, from the central and Mediterranean regions of Turkey was examined for the first time in this study. The chromosome set was composed of 18 biarmed and three acrocentric autosome pairs. The X chromosome was a medium-sized submetacentric, while the Y was a small metacentric. A distinct secondary constriction was observed on the juxta centromeric region of the long arm of an autosome that was negatively C-banded. Large heterochromatic C-blocks, stained densely, were detected in six biarmed pairs, while ones stained faintly were recorded in four biarmed autosome pairs. Active NORs were located in the secondary constriction of the acrocentric autosome. The numbers of C-banded autosomes of Turkish specimens were similar to those reported previously from the Palearctic region.Öğe Karyological studies of the 2n=60 cytotype of Nannospalax nehringi from Central Anatolia(Univ Florence Botany Inst, 2013) Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Yagci, Tuba; Cakir, SukranIn this study, the G-bands and nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) of the 2n = 60 chromosomal form of Nannospalax nehringi from Central Anatolia (Konya) are presented. The karyotype possesses nine pairs of submetacentric and subtelosentrics and 20 pairs of acrocentric autosomes gradually decreasing in size (fundamental number = 80 and autosomal fundamental number = 76). NORs were localized in the telomeric regions of the short arms of three large pairs and one medium-sized pair of subtelocentric autosomes (nos. 1, 3, 4, 9).Öğe Karyotypic studies of Meriones dahli Shidlovsky, 1962 (Rodentia: Muridae) from Turkey(Univ Florence Botany Inst, 2011) Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Demirbas, Yasin; Pamukoglu, Nahit; Albayrak, Irfan; Yagci, TubaIn this study, conventionally stained, C- and Ag-NOR banded karyotypes of Dahl's jird, Meriones dahli, were reported from Turkey. The species had a karyotype of 2n=50, NFa=74 and NF=78. The X and Y chromosomes were submetacentrics in all specimens examined. Blocks of constitutive heterochromatin were located in the pericentromeric areas of autosomes including the X and Y chromosomes. Interstitial C- bands are also detected in the long arms of one of the largest acrocentric pairs. Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were located at the telomeric regions of the short arms of three submetacentrics and two acrocentrics.Öğe A new karyotype and chromosomal banding pattern in Nannospalax ehrenbergi (Nehring, 1898) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) from southeast Anatolia, Turkey(Firenze Univ Press, 2015) Coskun, Yuksel; Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Kayaa, Alaettin; Karoz, Ayse MerveThis paper presents new data on chromosomes of the Palestine mole rat, Nannospalax ehrenbergi, from southeast Anatolia, Turkey. A new chromosomal form, 2n = 56, NF = 62 and NFa = 58, is determined from the region. C-banding revealed pericentromeric constitutive heterochromatin in one submetacentric and seven acrocentric autosome pairs. Two acrocentric autosome pairs and an acrocentric chromosome with a secondary constriction showed interstitial C-positive bands on their long arms. A secondary constriction was detected in the Y chromosome. The NORs were observed in one medium-sized metacentric autosome pair, and in four acrocentric pairs of autosomes.Öğe Nucleolar organizer region distribution in Nannospalax ehrenbergi (Nehring, 1898) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) from Iraq(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2014) Coskun, Yuksel; Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Kaya, Alaettin; Karoz, Ayse MerveThe distribution of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in Nannospalax ehrenbergi from Iraq was determined for the first time. In the karyotype of N. ehrenbergi the diploid number, fundamental number, and fundamental autosomal number were 52, 76, and 72, respectively. NORs occur in the telomeric regions of submetacentric and acrocentric autosome pairs.Öğe Variation of Nucleolar Organizer Regions in Two 2n=48 Chromosomal Forms of Nannospalax nehringi (Satunin, 1898) (Rodentia: Spalacidae) from North-eastern Anatolia(Inst Zoology, Bas, 2018) Coskun, Yuksel; Baydemir, Nursel Asan; Kaya, AlaettinWe describe the Ag-NOR distribution in two 2n=48 populations of blind mole rats of the genus Nannospalax from two localities (Caldiran and Asagisutasli) in the Van and Igdir Provinces in North-eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The karyotypes of the studied populations differed in the proportion of biarmed and acrocentric autosomes (NFa=64 and 68, respectively). The nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) occurred on four autosomal pairs in the Van population whereas only three NOR-bearing autosomal pairs were detected in the Igdir population. The karyotype of the individuals from the Igdir population was similar to the previously studied population from the Van-Erci Province. This similarity indicated that geographical barriers did not limit dispersal of the cytotype with NFa=68 chromosomal form in North-eastern Anatolia.
