(2023) Dundar, Hakan; Batmaz, Onur; Batmaz, Meltem Cevahir

Implementing tablet PCs in schools: Students' attitudes and opinions
(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2014) Dundar, Hakan; Akcayir, Murat
In this study, the attitudes, expectations and views of 206 students in four high schools within the scope of the FATIH project in Turkey were assessed regarding tablet PC technology after six months of a pilot plan that included the distribution of tablet PCs to students. The research questions of this study are whether there is a meaningful difference between tablet PC use by male and female students and the effect of computer and Internet by students on attitudes toward tablet PC use. Qualitative and quantitative data collection tools were used in the research. The Computer Attitude Measure for Young students (CAMYS) developed by Teo and Noyes (2008) was used in evaluating the students' attitudes toward the tablet PC usage. Interviews were conducted with eight teachers at pilot schools concerning the integration of tablet PCs into their classes; the positive and negative dimensions of tablet PCs were analyzed. The findings indicate that students have a positive attitude toward tablet PCs. There was not a meaningful difference between the attitudes of male and female students toward tablet PCs. The length of computer and Internet by the students did not affect their attitudes toward tablet PCs. The ways that teachers used tablet PCs in classes, the positive and negative aspects of tablet PC usage and the students' expectations of tablet PCs were discussed in the study. Tendencies of the Researches Published in Education and Science Journal: Content Analysis
(Turkish Education Assoc, 2014) Selcuk, Ziya; Palanci, Mehmet; Kandemir, Mehmet; Dundar, Hakan
The aim of this study is to perform a content analysis of the articles published in TED Education and Science Journal and in this way to define the trends of the articles published in the journal. In the study, a total of 492 articles selected by purposive sampling method were analyzed. For the selection of articles, it was considered that the articles were of the articles published in issues between 2007 and 2013 when the issue of the journal was scanned by SSCI. '' Publishing Classification Form '' was used for the analysis of the articles determined within this scope. By making content analysis, articles were analyzed to include the aspects such as defining information about the identity of the article, its field, its subject, method, data collection tools, sampling, data analysis methods, and discussions and recommendations. The obtained data was interpreted in a manner based on the percentage and frequency and they were also represented with tables and graphics. Based on the obtained data it was found out that more publications are made by scientists working in larger and great universities like Hacettepe, Ankara and Gazi University. Furthermore, it was identified that most of the publications are on fields such as educational programs and teaching, educational administration, mathematics and science education. In the study where publications based on quantitative and descriptive survey researches were identified as the most common publication type, it was found that attitude, perception, and personality tests were used as data collection tool. It was seen that the studies concentrated in the sampling range of 301-1000 persons at the undergraduate level. For the analysis of data it was found that descriptive analysis were made more commonly and Anova and T-test analysis were also used in the studies intensively. Publication trend of TED Education and Science Journal, and its framework to contribute scientific studies will be developed by following history, profile and trends of the publication based on the present analysis.

What makes you a digital native? Is it enough to be born after 1980?
(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2016) Akcayir, Murat; Dundar, Hakan; Akcayir, Gokce
The purpose of this study is to determine levels of technological proficiency among university students to see if they should be characterized as "digital natives." For this purpose, rather than using types and frequency of technology use to characterize a digital native, the Digital Native Assessment Scale (DNAS) developed by Teo (2013) was employed. This scale has an established reliability and validity measure. It measures several factors (e.g., grew up with technology, comfortable with multi-tasking, reliant on graphics for communication, thrive on instant gratifications and rewards, etc.) relating to accepted characteristics of a digital native. The participants in the study were 560 university students, 278 of whom were from Turkey and 282 from Kyrgyzstan. The findings indicate that these university students actively used computers and the Internet. The statistical results show that digital natives can be characterized by including their academic year (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.), national culture, and experiences with technology (computers, tablet PCs, and the Internet). The results also indicate that there are no significant differences in the participants' perceptions of themselves as digital natives due to their gender or academic disciplines.
