Öğe Alteration in blood gases in cats naturally infected with Aelurostrongylus abstrusus(Wiley, 2011) Yildiz, K.; Duru, S. Y.; Gokpinar, S.Four cats were presented with respiratory signs and first-stage larvae of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus were found in faecal samples. Anthelmintic treatment was given to the infected cats and venous blood gases were analysed during the treatment period. Blood gas analysis suggested hypoventilation and respiratory acidosis in infected cats. Hypoventilation may be the result of airway obstruction by adults and larvae in respiratory bronchioles and the alveolar canals. The blood gas values had returned close to the physiological range by two months after treatment. Assessment of respiratory acidosis may aid development of additional treatment methods in cats infected with A. abstrusus.Öğe Efficacy of staphylococcal bacterin for treatment of canine recurrent pyoderma: an open clinical trial(Ecole Nationale Veterinaire Toulouse, 2007) Borku, M. K.; Özkanlar, Y.; Hanedan, B.; Duru, S. Y.This study was performed to investigate the efficacy of a staphylococcal bacterin used in cows for curative and preventive purposes against staphylococcal mastitis, as a primary treatment to idiopathic pyoderma caused by staphylococci in dogs. Twenty-one dogs with a history of recurrent pyoderma were used in the study. Alopecic, erythematous, pruritic, crusting, malodorous and exudative skin lesions were monitored in the dogs and the lesions were either local or generalized. The lesions were classified as superficial and deep based on the findings of clinical appearance. Staphylococcus intermedius was isolated and identified from each of the dogs' lesions. The staphylococcal bacterin, conventionally used against mastitis in cows, was administered eleven times during a four month period. The response was classified as excellent, good or poor, based on clinical findings. There was a follow-up period of 12 months. Excellent and good responses were classified as successful result. The success rates in superficial and deep pyoderma were 100 % and 81.82 %, respectively. The overall success rate was 90.48 %. In conclusion, administration of the staphylococcal bacterin alone was effective and safe to treat dogs with recurrent staphylococcal pyoderma induced by Staphylococcus intermedius.Öğe Seroprevalence of Q fever in dairy cattle in the Konya province, Turkey(Ecole Nationale Veterinaire Toulouse, 2011) Gazyagci, S.; Aktas, M. S.; Kilic, S.; Babur, C.; Celebi, B.; Duru, S. Y.The present study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence of Q fever among the dairy cattle in the Konya province, Central Anatolia, Turkey. Specifically, sera samples were collected from 322 dairy cattle and the presence of IgG antibodies occurred against Coxiella burnetii phase II was identified by an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) test using the 1:32 dilution as positive threshold. A total of 40 cows (seroprevalence: 12.4%) gave positive results. No association was evidenced between the seropositivity and reproductive disorders or the tick presence. These results indicate that C. burnetii was implanted in the dairy cattle in both the Konya province and Central Anatolia, Turkey.
