Öğe Female university students' knowledge and practice of breast self-examination in Turkey(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2019) Koç, Gülten; Gülen-Savaş, Hacer; Ergöl, Şule; Yildirim-Cetinkaya, M.; Aydın, NilgünBackground: Breast cancer keeps its importance as an important health problem in developing countries like Turkey. Therefore, breast cancer screening and early diagnosis are more important for these countries. Although there are debates about breast self- examination, it is still involved in breast cancer screening programs in many countries. Aim: This study aimed to determine university students' knowledge and practice of Breast Self-Examination (BSE). Materials and Methods: The study universe consisted of all the female students studying at a public university. Sample size of 161 was calculated for a predicted event frequency. The research data were collected using a questionnaire. Results: A total of 73.3% of the subjects students had heard about BSE. Only half of these students had obtained additional information about BSE. While half of the students indicated that they did perform BSE, 33.3% reported doing so at regular intervals. The majority of the students were aware of BSE and its purpose. Only about half stated, however, that they practice it. Those who practiced BSE were not knowledgeable about how and when to perform it. Conclusions: In developing countries, to have adequate knowledge of BSE of young women and to do BSE, it is important to develop a consciousness of breast health and an awareness of breast cancer at this age.Öğe The Challenges Experienced by Nursing Students in Clinical Learning Environment and Their Suggestions*(2022) Akyüz, Elif; Ergöl, ŞuleAim: The aim of the study was to determine the challenges experienced by nursing students in the clinical learning environment and their suggestions. Method: The study was carried out with 249 nursing students between November 2019 and March 2020 at a university in Turkey using a 62-item questionnaire developed by the researchers. Results: 49.8% of the participants experienced challenges during clinical practice that are related to the nurses (37.5%), the hospital (27.0%), and theoretical education (13.5%), and they believe that their challenges could be partially resolved (46.6%). 70.7% of the participants stated that they could partially transfer what they learned in the classroom to their clinical practice. All the participants who reported an event that affected them in the clinic (67.5%) gave an example of a negative event and most of these events were related to the attitudes and behaviors of the nurses. Their suggestions for better clinical practice were to increase the number of practice lessons and more innovative and technology-based training methods used in accordance with the technological developments of the digital age. Conclusions: There are considerable challenges and obstacles that nursing students face in the clinical learning environment that can affect their competence and learning. It can be said that new technological and innovative teaching techniques should be developed to overcome these obstacles and challenges.Öğe THE EFFECT OF BEAUTY SERVICES ON WOMEN'S STRESS AND BODY IMAGE(2022) Kuzu, Ayşe; Ergöl, Şule; Aslantürk, Gözde ParasızObjective: This study was carried out to determine the perceived stress and body image of women who received service from hairdressing salons with their opinions about benefiting from beauty services.\rMethod: The sample of this descriptive study consisted of 333 female participants who had service from 10 hairdressing salons operating on a street which is considered as the centre of the city between 15.04.2017-15.05.2017. The data of the study was collected by using “Personal Information Form”, “Perceived Stress Scale” and “Body Cathexis Scale (BCS)”.\rResults: In this study, it was determined that stress perception of women who benefit from beauty services on a regular basis is low and their body image is positive; the body image of women going to the hairdresser to feel good is positive; body image of women whose aim is to feel good and who partially regret the procedure is negative; stress perception of women who feel relieved when they go to the hairdresser is low; the relationship between the appearance of women and their psychological status influences the body image and there was a positive correlation between the scores of perceived stress and the body image.\rConclusion: As it is known, many mental health problems are related to stress and psychological well-being is a situation involving the body image. This positive effect of beauty services is thought to be effective for women’s mental health care services.
