Overview Arabic Historical Sources about the Turkish Language
(Kırıkkale Üniversitesi, 2024) Rjoub, Baha; Ersoy, Ersen
This study sheds light on Arabic sources that discuss the Turkish language, tracing the history of cultural and linguistic interactions between Arab and Turkish peoples throughout the ages.It highlights the importance of these sources in the context of foreign language learning, particularly within the Arab community. Simultaneously, these sources are also valuable for learning Arabic from the Turkish perspective. They provide a deep understanding of how Arab students comprehend Turkish vocabulary and grammar rules, and how these sources have contributed to the development of communication and cultural exchange between the two cultures. The study delves into linguistic learning sources for the Turkish language within the Arab community in various regions, with a focus on Egyptian, Syrian, and Lebanese areas, as well as the Turkic and Khwarazmian realms. Linguistic influence refers to the Turkish language's adoption of Arabic vocabulary and terminology, especially in religious, scientific, and artistic fields. During the Ottoman Empire era, Arabic sources document the profound influence of the Arabic language in administrative, legal, and religious domains, where it was used in official documents and governmental correspondence. These sources vary from history books to linguistic records, dictionaries, and literary references, providing a comprehensive understanding of the linguistic and cultural dimensions of the relationship between Arabic and Turkish languages. The sources in this study are arranged chronologically, from the oldest to the most recent, up to the present day.
