    Investigation of Deformation Based Damage Limits of Reinforced Concrete Column

    Deformation-based damage limits for reinforced concrete members, which were mandated in Turkish building earthquake codes, 2018 were analytically investigated to be able to determine the earthquake performance of structural members. Square, rectangular and circular reinforced concrete column models having different geometry and parameters were designed. The nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete sections were investigated using the moment-curvature relationships obtained based on real material behavior. The behavior of column cross-sections were examined by using the data obtained from the moment-curvature relations of reinforced concrete column models. Damage limit values given in Turkish Building Earthquake Codes, 2018 were calculated for the designed concrete column models. In the determination of strains and internal force limits, Collapse Prevention Performance Limits, Controlled Damage Performance Level and Limited Damage Performance Levels as mentioned in Turkish Building Earthquake Code, 2018 was used. Three different damage limits for the columns and the correspondence strain limits for these columns were investigated. Column damages and damage limits were evaluated for the corresponding displacement demands. The limit values of strains and internal force values occurred for different performance levels of the designed reinforced concrete columns having different longitudinal reinforcement diameter, confinement reinforcement diameter, confinement reinforcement spacing and for different axial load levels were investigated by using the calculated plastic rotation values.
