Öğe Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Temporary Black Henna Tattoo Due to Sensitization to Para-Phenylenediamine(Bilimsel Tip Yayinevi, 2021) Dibek Misirlioglu, Emine; Tanidir, Merve; Buyuktiryaki, Betul; Kanik Yuksek, Saliha; Sahiner, Neriman; Guvenir, Hakan; Azkur, DilekThe fashion for temporary black henna tattoo is becoming increasingly more common among young adults and teens. An adolescent case with itching, erythema, edema, and inflammatory discharge on the right forearm two days after a temporary tattoo application is presented in this report. To determine the contact sensitizer, a patch test was performed one month after the end of the treatment. A bullous strong positive reaction (3+) was observed against para-phenylenediamine at the 48th and 72nd hours of evaluation after the application. Despite the common belief that henna tattoo application is harmless, the ingredients used in henna tattoo especially paraphenylenediamine can lead to allergenic reactions that can even be severe.Öğe Investigation Of Neisseria Meningitidis Carriage And Its Risk Factors Following A Cluster Of Meningococcal Disease In Diyarbakır(Nobel Ilac, 2011) Sahiner, Neriman; Akbas, Efsun; Nar, Selin; Esen, BerrinObjective: Because the Neisseria meningitidis carriage is known as a major cause of its transmission, determination of the asymptomatic carriage rate in community is important. This study was planned to verify the carriage rates in close contacts and in general population, typing isolates and discussing them in epidemiological manner following cases of meningococcal diseases over than estimated for the two months period in Diyarbakir In addition, relationship between N. meningitidis carriage and the risk factors -e.g. age, sex, smoking, number of household members- was also investigated. Material and Method: A total of 255 nasopharyngeal samples (close contacts n=69; normal population n=186) were collected and cultured onto specific media. Results: General carriage rate was found to be 2.4% (6/255). The highest rate was seen in the 5-9 year age group as 3.4% (2/59). Carriage rate among close contacts most of whom taken chemoprophylaxis was 1.5% whereas the rate was calculated as 2.7% in normal population. Only one isolate, which is also single isolate from the group of close contacts, was serogrouped as W135. One of the isolates from five members in the representing group of normal population was defined as serogroup X while the remaining four could not be serogrouped. Conclusion: Since N. meningitidis serogroup W135 was responsible from the epidemics during the Haj seasons in Saudi Arabia in 2000 and 2001, and a case caused by W135 was also reported in our country in 2004, increase in rate of carriage is important for this pathogen.Öğe PCR investigation of Panton-Valentine leukocidin, enterotoxin, exfoliative toxin, and agr genes in Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from psoriasis patients(Tubitak Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2015) Gocmen, Julide Sedef; Sahiner, Neriman; Kocak, Mukadder; Karahan, Zeynep CerenBackground/aim: Staphylococcus aureus colonization is a determiner of disease activation in psoriasis patients. Here we evaluate the presence of genes encoding Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL), enterotoxins, TSST-1, exfoliative toxins, and the accessory gene regulatory locus by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in S. aureus isolates obtained from healthy and diseased skin regions and anterior nares of psoriasis patients and healthy controls. Materials and methods: The presence of PVL and toxin genes was investigated, and agr typing was performed by PCR. Results: Eighteen of the isolated strains carried the sei, 1 carried the seb-sec, and 1 carried the seg enterotoxin gene. Eight of the strains carrying enterotoxin genes were isolated from nasal swabs, 6 from diseased skin swabs, and 4 from healthy skin swabs. None of the strains isolated from the control group carried the agr locus. On the other hand, 11 of the S. aureus strains isolated from the patients carried type 1, 7 carried type 1 + 3, 4 carried type 2, 4 carried type 3, and 1 carried type 1 + 2 agr loci. Conclusion: Enterotoxin production and the carried accessory gene regulatory locus may be important in the aggravation of psoriasis.Öğe Tangier disease in a Turkish family(Wiley-Blackwell, 2014) Sahiner, Neriman; Kocak, Mukadder; Demirceken, Fulya; Kisa, Ucler; Ayva, Sebnem; Kazkayasi, MustafaIn this report we describe the upper gastrointestinal tractus involvement in a rare genetic disease of lipid metabolism. A 12-year-old boy presented with sore throat and fever. On physical examination, orange-yellow tonsils and adenoid tissue were noted. Mild hepatosplenomegaly was present. Lipid profile was compatible with Tangier disease (TD). Endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract showed white-yellowish fatty deposits on the gastric mucosa. Microscopically, biopsy specimens contained numerous histiocytes with a foamy cytoplasm packed in the lamina propria of the gastric mucosa and at the crypt basement of the duodenum. His sister, 8 years old, was also diagnosed with TD based on abnormal lipid profile and orange-yellow tonsils. TD is a rare familial disorder of lipid metabolism, characterized by deposition of cholesteryl esters, probably involving the entirety of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus.
