Öğe Differences in the Follicular Morphology of Young and Aged Bitches and Their Correlation with the Anti-Mullerian Hormone(Kafkas Univ, Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi, 2016) Korkmaz, Omer; Korkmaz, Deniz; Polat, Ibrahim Mert; Yagci, Ilknur Pir; Pekcan, Mert; Emre, Birten; Zonturlu, Abuzer KafarThis study aimed to investigate the structural, morphological and cellular differences of follicles at different stages of follicular development as well as to determine the correlation of the ovarian follicle population with serum Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) levels in young and aged bithches. Sixteen bitches were divided into two groups according to their ages. Group A included young bitches aged 2 years (n=8) while Group B constituted of those aged 8 to 10 years (n=8). Diameters of the primordial, primary and preantral follicles were found to be significantly larger in Group B, in comparison to Group A. In Group A, the mean number of granulosa cells was 91.65 +/- 2.23 in the secondary follicles and 301.31 +/- 4.16 in the preantral follicles. In Group B, the same values were found to be 89.46 +/- 2.68 and 270.25 +/- 3.54, respectively. The mean serum AMH levels in Group A and Group B were 0.233 +/- 0.046 ng/mL and 0.099 +/- 0.008 ng/mL, respectively (P<0.05). In conclusion, the results indicated that the number of primordial and primary follicles as well as the numbers of granulosa cells in secondary and preantral follicles decreased with advanced age which resulted in lower serum AMH levels in aged bitches. The results suggested that the AMH, which is used as a fertility parameter in humans, could also be used for the same purpose in dogs.Öğe Evaluation of once daily dose of phenylpropanolamine in the treatment of urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence in spayed bitches(Ankara Univ Press, 2012) Kanca, Halit; Karakas, Kubra; Yagci, Ilknur Pir; Basaran, TimucinThe aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and long term safety of once daily administration of phenylpropanolamine (PPA) in the treatment of urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI) in spayed bitches in comparison to three times daily administrations. For this purpose, 22 spayed bitches suffering from USMI received either PPA at the dose rate of 1.5 mg/kg, body weight (BW) once daily (group I, n=11) or 1.5 mg/kg three times daily (group II, n=11) by oral administration. Clinical efficacy was determined by using a scoring system based on analysing the frequency and the amount of unconscious urination on d 7, 14 and 28. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) between the clinical response observed on d 7, 14 and 28 of treatment in group I and II. Eight dogs (72.7%) in each group were continent on d 28. The side effects observed were mild and transient. Phenylpropanolamine therapy was continued in 13 dogs that became continent after 28 d and the dogs were followed up for 12 months. None of the dogs showed symptoms of urinary incontinence except for 2 bitches that became refractory to PPA treatment in group II. Phenylpropanolamine was combined with estriol for 14 d (1 mg/dog PO) in dogs in which PPA therapy was inefficient or unsatisfactory on d 28 and in dogs that became refractory to PPA treatment. A total of 8 dogs were treated with estriol PPA combination. Five (62.5%) bitches were continent on 14th d of estriol PPA combination treatment. In one bitch (12.5%) urinary incontinence improved. In conclusion, once daily administration of PPA at a dose of 1.5 mg/kg, BW is effective in treatment of USMI in spayed bitches and it offers a cheap and convenient treatment option. In addition, recurrence of incontinence can be observed during long term administration of PPA and combination of PPA with estriol is effective in dogs in which PPA therapy alone is unsatisfactory and in dogs that become refractory to PPA treatment.Öğe Subclinical mastitis in sheeps: Etiology, epidemiology and diagnosis methods(Kafkas Univ, Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi, 2008) Yagci, Ilknur PirThe incidence of mastitis is less frequent in sheep compared to dairy cows. However, there has been a growing interest in sheep mastitis due to a high morbidity rate in acute and peracute forms, Furthermore, sheep with sub-clinical mastitis may develop clinical form of mastitis in poor husbandary condition. Mastitis in sheep is seen in two forms: clinical and subclinical. The clinical form, which has peracute, acute and chronic subforms, is characterized by grossly visible pathological changes in mammary gland and milk. However, the subclinical form bears more importance as the case is often missed due to absence of such changes. Numerous studies on etiology, epidemiology and diagnosis of sheep mastitis indicated that the sheep mastitis resembles to cow mastitis. However, there are important differences between sheep and cow mastitis. This review discusses etiology, epidemiology and Current diagnostic techniques in subclinical mastitis in sheep with emphasis on recent updates.Öğe The treatment of Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) with vincristine sulphate in a male dog(Kafkas Univ, Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi, 2008) Yagci, Ilknur Pir; Kalender, HakanIn this study, we investigated the clinical, cytological and haemotological changes in after weekly vincristine sulphate administration in naturally occured a four year old male dog referred to Kirikkale Univercity Clinics of Veterinary Faculty with history of haematuri. Physical examination revealed cauliflower like appereance, 8 cm diameter haemorrhagical mass on bulbus penis. The diagnosis of TVT was established on the basis of cytologic results and clinical symptom. Treatment was considered of intravenous 0.025 mg/kg vincristine sulphate in 500 ml saline solution. The treatment was conducted one a week for a duration of six week. In this case, it was aimed to show that cytological examinations in a male dog with TVT is required for definite diagnosis and alteration of blood parameters during treatment with appropriate doses of vincristine sulphate.Öğe Ultrasonographic Evaluation of Mammary Tumors in Bitches(Kafkas Univ, Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi, 2009) Bastan, Ayhan; Ozenc, Erhan; Yagci, Ilknur Pir; Acar, Duygu BakiThe aim of this study was to characterize the ultrasonographic patterns of benign and malignant mammary tumors and to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasonographic imaging to distinguish benign and malignant tumors in dogs. Shape, margins, width-to-craniocaudal (CC) dimension ratio, echotexture, echogenicity, presence of calcification, presence of pseudocapsule, size (the deepest and longest axis) and acoustic transmission Of tumors were evaluated. The ultrasonography features and the tissue diagnosis of benign tumor were oval or round (80% of masses with this feature were benign), and circumscribed margins (95% were benign). The features most predictive of a malignant tumor diagnosis were spiculated or microlobulated margins (76% of masses with this feature were malignant), and irregular shape (78% were malignant). No differences between the benign and malignant groups for width-to-CC dimension ratio >1.4 were observed. The benign tumors were seen in different distribution of beign hypoechoic (30%), isoechoic (35%) or varied in echogenicity. It was concluded that, the ultrasonography could be an extremely useful tool for the preevaluation of canine mammary gland tumors, especially in relation to the evaluation of tumor size, shape, border irregularity, echotexture, internal echogenicity and acoustic transmission.
