Öğe Exploring parental experiences in inclusive education for children with intellectual disabilities(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Yazicioglu, Tansel; Dodur, Halime Miray SumerParental involvement is essential for inclusive education, as it addresses challenges and enhances effectiveness. Attitudes towards inclusion vary based on disability type, but experience shows positive effects on children's development. The study included 255 parents of children with intellectual disabilities in Turkish public schools. The parents' demographic information, including education, job status, and their children's school level, was collected through a Personal Information Form, while the Competence Scale for Inclusion Practices in Schools was used to assess the level of competencies of schools in inclusive practices. The study found that parents had mixed perspectives on teachers' knowledge levels, school guidance services, environmental and educational arrangements, and resource rooms. These perspectives were influenced by factors such as the education level of their children, satisfaction with inclusion, work experience with the classroom teacher, type of work on inclusion practices, and academic or social expectations.Öğe Family stress and self-efficacy in parents of children with special needs: The regulatory role of perceived social support(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2024) Yazicioglu, Tansel; Yildirim, A. Emel Sardohan; Kumas, Ozlem AltindagPurpose: This study aimed to determine the relationships between family stress, perceived support, and parental self-efficacy levels among Turkish parents of children with special needs. Methods: A total of 207 parents of children with special needs participated in this study. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to calculate the relationship between normally distributed scale scores, and Spearman's correlation analysis was used to calculate the relationship between non-normally distributed scale scores. In addition, this study examined the moderating role of perceived social support in the effect of parental selfefficacy on family stress. Regulatory variable analyses were conducted using Jamovi 2.3.28. Results: It was concluded that most of the participants in the study had a medium level of family stress, perceived support, and a high level of parental self-efficacy. In addition, when perceived family support was low, the change in parental self-efficacy did not affect family stress, whereas when perceived family support was high, the increase in parental self-efficacy increased the level of family stress. Conclusions: Based on these results, programs aimed at increasing the quality of social support and parenting quality of families should be planned and implemented.Öğe Social support, resilience and life satisfaction in families with special needs children(Elsevier Science Inc, 2025) Yıldırım, A. Emel Sardohan; Kumar, Özlem Altındağ; Yazicioglu, TanselPurpose: This study aimed to investigate the intricate relationships among resilience, life satisfaction, and perceived social support in Turkish families raising children with special needs, emphasizing the importance of understanding these variables for enhancing family well-being. Design and methods: The study involved a sample of 317 parents of children with special needs. Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted due to the normal distribution of scale scores. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to explore the mediating effects of social support on the relationship between resilience and life satisfaction, with analyses performed using Jamovi 2.3.28. Results: The findings revealed a positive correlation between life satisfaction and resilience among these families and a strong association between perceived social support and life satisfaction. Conclusions: These results provide valuable insights into the development of support programs aimed at improving family resilience and life satisfaction. Practical implications: The involvement of pediatric nursing is crucial in implementing and designing these support programs to effectively address the unique challenges faced by families raising children with special needs.
