Sonuç olarak, bu araştırma çim ve beton zeminlerde oynanan profesyonel tenis maçlarında kat edilen mesafe değişkenlerinin cinsiyet ve boy uzunluğuna göre değişim gösterdiğini vurgulamıştır.Öğe The relationship between postural stability, core muscle endurance and agility in professional basketball players(2019) Cengizhan, Pelin Aksen; Cobanoglu, Gamze; Gökdoğan, Çagatay Müslüm; Zorlular, Ali; Akaras, Esedullah; Örer, Gamze Erikoğlu; Kafa, NihanAim: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between postural stability, core muscle endurance and agility in basketball players. Materials and Methods: 21 professional male basketball players [age: 17.±0.63 (years), body weight: 78.69±9.22 (kg), height: 186±7 (cm), BMI: 22.72±2.26 (kg/cm²)] were included to this study. Agility was assessed by Hexagonal Obstacle Test (HOT). Results: The analysis results showed that postural stability is associated with HOT (r: 0.457). In addition, the postural stability was related to extension muscle endurance test and side bridge test (respectively, r: -0.501 and r: -0.468). There is no correlation between HOT and core muscle endurance test in basketball players. Conclusion: The athletes with good postural stability were better core muscle endurance and agility. It is important to apply exercise programs that enhance postural stability and increase core muscle endurance to improve sportive success.Öğe The examination of some anthropometric and motoric characteristics of students aged eight years according to their maturation level(GDANSK UNIV PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORT, 2020) Ari, Erdal; Deliceoglu, GokhanBackground: Maturation is an important factor for exercise. The maturation effect on some anthropometric and motoric characteristics of students aged eight years was examined in this study. Material and methods: 535 primary education students voluntarily participated in this study. Anthropometric measurements (weight, height, sitting height, stroke length, stroke rate, leg length and body mass index), flexibility, handgrip strength, vertical jump (squat and countermovement jump), tapping (skipping) test paramaters (step frequency, flight times and contact times to ground of right and left foot, step/speed ratio), postural sway (anterior-posterior, medial lateral and total postural sway), visual reaction and reaction time, 20 meters sprint time, agility values were measured. The test parameters were compared in terms of gender and maturation level (early, normal and delayed maturation) by parametric (independent samples T-test, one way ANOVA) and non-parametric (Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal Wallis-H) tests. Results: A significant difference was indicated between boy and girl students in most of the test parameters (p < 0.05). The analysis results indicated that students at early maturation level had better test values (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The maturation factor positively affected some anthropometric and motoric parameters of students aged eight years.Öğe Impact of functional speed training on speed-related parameters and performance in youth basketball players(MATTIOLI 1885, 2020) Ersoy, Buse; Bilge, Murat; Caglar, Emine; Michalsik, Lars BojsenStudy Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of functional sprint training on the movement components affecting speed in youth basketball players. Methods: The subjects in this study consisted of three groups; a research group (RG(,age) = 12,5 +/- 0,3, n = 16), a basketball group (BG(,age) = 12,5 +/- 0,3, n = 16), and a control group (CG(,age) = 12,2 +/- 0,4, n = 16). In addition to normal basketball training RG performed functional sprint training known as A-B-C training while. BG performed only basketball training. CG did not perform any kind of training. The subjects in the RG and BG carried out a total of 24 training sessions during in eight-week period with 3 times x 45 min's training per week. All three groups were tested before and after the functional sprint training intervention using a group of well-known agility and sprint tests (Illinois, T-drill, 505 agility test, and a 20-m acceleration test). Results: Differences were found between BG and CG in the percentage of developmental values in 10-20 m (p < 0.05) in favor of BG, between RG and both BG and CG in the T-drill and Illinois agility test percentage of developmental values (p < 0.01) in favor of RG and between CG and both RG and BG in the 505 agility test percentage of developmental values (p < 0.05) against CG. Conclusion: The present findings show that 8 weeks of functional sprint training performed 3 times x 45 min per week had a marked effect on some movement components influencing speed ability in youth basketball players.Öğe The roles of some agility performance parameters on the linear, single sprint skills of young male basketball and handball players(MATTIOLI 1885, 2020) Bilge, Murat; Çağlar, Emine; Saavedra, Jose M.Study Objectives: This study aimed to examine the roles of some agility parameters on the linear, single sprint skills among young male basketball and handball players. Methods: The participants in this study were male basketball players (BP) (n = 15, +/- SD= 15.30 +/- 0.48) and handball players (HP) (n = 32, +/- SD = 16.81 +/- 1.63) who trained regularly, and a control group (CG) (n = 31, +/- SD = 15.87 +/- 0.80). They participated in 0 to 30 m linear speed tests, a T test, a 505 agility test, and an Illinois agility test. Changes in direction, side stepping, reversing direction, and running backward were the main sub-parameters of agility performance that constituted the independent variables. A multiple regression analysis was conducted if these independent variables predicted the 0 to10 m, 10 to 30 m, and 0 to 30 m sprint performances separately. One way ANOVA was performed to determine group differences in all the independent variables. Results: The ANOVA revealed statistically significant differences between groups for the independent variables (p < 0.001). The Tukey HSD test indicated that all three groups significantly differed from each other. Conclusion: As a result, it can be concluded that agility parameters contributed to speed skills. It is recommended that the exercises that include agility parameters should be used when designing training, especially in team sports.Öğe Effect of Alkaline Diet with 8-week Step Aerobic Exercise on Body Composition and Aerobic Exercise Performance of Sedentary Women(MATTIOLI 1885, 2020) Yalcinkaya, Nehir; Cetin, Onat; Beyleroglu, Malik; Isik, Ozkan; Eker, Salih; Bilge, MuratStudy Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an alkaline diet with step aerobic exercises for 8-week in sedentary women on their body composition and aerobic exercise performances. Conclusion: The alkaline diet with reduced acid value together with 8-week step aerobic exercises in sedentary women, has a high rate of positive effects on body composition and aerobic exercise performances.Öğe Total Dietary Antioxidant Intake Including Polyphenol Content: Is It Capable to Fight against Increased Oxidants within the Body of Ultra-Endurance Athletes?(MDPI, 2020) Devrim-Lanpir, Asli; Bilgic, Pelin; Kocahan, Tugba; Deliceoglu, Gokhan; Rosemann, Thomas; Knechtle, BeatThe role of dietary antioxidants on exhaustive exercise-induced oxidative stress has been well investigated. However, the contribution of total dietary antioxidant capacity on exogenous antioxidant defense and exercise performance has commonly been disregarded. The aims of the present investigation were to examine (i) the effects of dietary total antioxidant intake on body antioxidant mechanisms, and (ii) an exhaustive exercise-induced oxidative damage in ultra-endurance athletes. The study included 24 ultra-marathon runners and long-distance triathletes (12 male and 12 female) who underwent an acute exhaustive exercise test (a cycle ergometer (45 min at 65% VO(2)max) immediately followed by a treadmill test (75% VO(2)max to exhaustion). Oxidative stress-related biomarkers (8-isoprostaglandin F2alpha (8-iso PGF2a), total oxidant status (TOS, total antioxidant status (TAS)) in plasma were collected before and after exercise. Oxidative stress index was calculated to assess the aspect of redox balance. Blood lactate concentrations and heart rate were measured at the 3rd and 6th min after exercise. Dietary antioxidant intake was calculated using the ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) assay. Dietary total antioxidant intake of the subjects was negatively correlated with pre-exercise TOS concentrations (rs = -0.641 in male, and rs = -0.741 in females) and post- vs. pre- ( increment ) 8-iso PGF2a levels (rs = -0.702 in male;p= 0.016, and rs = -0.682 in females;p= 0.024), and positively correlated with increment TAS concentrations (rs = 0.893 in males;p= 0.001, and rs = 0.769 in females;p= 0.002) and post- exercise lactate concentrations (rs = 0.795 for males;p= 0.006, and rs = 0.642 for females;p= 0.024). A positive meaningful (p= 0.013) interaction was observed between time at exhaustion and dietary antioxidant intake (rs = 0.692) in males, but not in females. In conclusion, the determination of total dietary antioxidant intake in ultra-endurance athletes may be crucial for gaining a better perspective on body antioxidant defense against exhaustive exercise-induced oxidative stress. However, the effects of dietary antioxidant on exercise performance and recovery rate needs further investigation.Öğe The effect of dry-land training on functional strength and swimming performance of 10-12 years old swimmers(MATTIOLI 1885, 2020) Özeker, Kutlukhan Yağmur; Bilge, Murat; Köse, Damla Selin YıldırımStudy Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the effect of three weeks of dry-land training on functional strength and swimming performance in addition to eight weeks of swimming training of 15 female athletes in the 10-12 years age group with at least three years of training history. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of muscle fatigue on male handball players' shooting accuracy and ball speed. METHODS: Sixteen elite handball players (M-age = 17.1 +/- 1.7 years) participated in the laboratory and the field-testing sessions. Running speeds equal to 75% of participants' maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) values from laboratory tests were used as the initial velocity for the 30-15 intermittent fitness test (30-15(IFT)) in the fatigue protocol. Participants shot to the target at random visual signals placed behind the target before and after fatigue. In order to measure wrist acceleration and ball speed, an accelerometer and a radar gun are used respectively and numbers of accurate and inaccurate shots also recorded. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between pre-fatigue and post-fatigue protocols in terms of accurate and inaccurate shots, and ball speed. Only wrist acceleration in the Y axis (M-pre(-fatigue) = 33.12, SD = 1.17msec; M-post - fatigue = 34.50, SD = 1.21msec) was affected by the fatigue protocol in inaccurate shots (p = 0.042). CONCLUSIONS: Muscular fatigue does not affect shooting accuracy and ball speed in male handball players.Öğe Is there any predictive equation to determine resting metabolic rate in ultra-endurance athletes?(Mattioli 1885, 2019) Devrim-Lanpir, Asli; Kocahan, Tugba; Deliceoglu, Gokhan; Tortu, Erkan; Bilgic, PelinBackground/aims: Only a few studies determined some equations to predict resting metabolic rate (RMR) in endurance athletes, however the validity in ultra-endurance athletes, such as triathletes and ultra-marathoners, had not been examined previously. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of commonly used RMR predictive equations (Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St. Jeor, Cunningham, WHO/FAO/UNU (calculated by using body mass and height and body mass alone), Wang, and Sabounchi (Structure 4, 5, and 11) equations) comparing with measured RMR in ultra-endurance athletes. Methods: Male (n=15) and female (n=15) ultra-endurance athletes age 23 to 55 years from Ankyra Sports Club were included. The Bland-Altman plot was performed to determine mean bias and limits of agreement between measured and predicted RMRs. Linear regression analysis was used to determine the accuracy of each predictive equation by computing the standard en-or of estimate and root-mean-squared prediction error (RMSPE). Results: Mifflin-St. Jeor equation was found to be the best predictive equation with lowest RMSPE (275.85 kcal/day for men and 388.34 kcal/day for women) and mean difference (3.04 +/- 285.51 kcal/day for men and 185.57 +/- 353.10 for women) in ultra-endurance athletes. The Cunningham equation could be used in estimating RMR in male athletes (RMSPE, 310.77 kcal/day, the bias between measured vs. predicted RMR, 147.68 +/- 283.04 kcal/day). Conclusions: The Mifflin- St. Jeor and Cunningham equations for men and the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation in women could be used with caution in the absence of indirect calorimetry in ultra-endurance athletes. All other predictions significantly underestimated RMR for both sexes.Öğe Stature: Does it really make a difference in match-play outcomes among professional tennis players?(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2018) Sogut, MustafaThe purpose of this study was to determine the effects of body height on match-play characteristics among professional tennis players participated in the 2017 Wimbledon Championships. Anthropometric features and 11 match-play statistics of 119 players (male=60, female=59) were obtained from the official web page of the tournament and/or from the ATP and WTA. They were divided into three consecutive sub-groups according to their heights. Results revealed that, regardless of gender, players in the tallest group had significantly produced higher speed on both first and second serve than the players in the other groups. Tallest male players exhibited significantly greater scores on the percentage of first serve points won and aces per set than the players in the shortest group. Conversely, players in the shortest groups achieved significantly more percentage of return point than the players in the tallest groups. Height was found to be significantly and positively correlated with both first and second serve speeds, and aces performed per set and significantly and negatively associated with percentage of return points won in both genders. These findings highlight the considerable advantages and disadvantages of stature on serve and return related match outcomes in a grass court tournament.Öğe A comparison between core exercises with Theraband and Swiss Ball in terms of core stabilization and balance performance(Ios Press, 2018) Aksen-Cengizhan, Pelin; Onay, Derya; Sever, Ozan; Dogan, Ali AhmetBACKGROUND: Core exercises include exercises to train muscles that control and stabilize the movements of the abdomen, waist, and hip. Thanks to these exercises, the control and balance of the body are increased. Exercises on unstable surfaces increase the level of muscle activity, and by using elastic resistance tools, one or more joints can be simultaneously and efficiently trained. OBJECTIVE: To compare core exercises with Theraband and Swiss Ball in terms of core stabilization and balance performance. METHOD: A total of 22 women who perform recreational sports between 25 and 46 years of age participated in the study. The participants were separated into two groups: Swiss Ball (SBC, n = 11) and Theraband (TBC, n = 11). Both groups were subjected to core exercise programs for 6 weeks, 3 days a week, around 40 minutes per day. Prior to and after the 6-week exercises, body composition, core stabilization, Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), and Stork balance test scores were compared. RESULTS: No difference was found between groups in terms of pre-test values. While the weight and body mass index values decreased in all groups, the balance and core stabilization test scores increased significantly. With the exception of the SEBT, which has increased significantly in the TBC group, there were no differences between the groups in none of the scores. CONCLUSION: As both training methods lead to positive effect on the tested variables, the choice of the specific method should probably be decided based on individual preference and the training environment.Öğe Screen Time Differences among Turkish University Students as an Indicator of Sedentary Lifestyle and Inactivity(Fac Teacher Education, 2017) Caglar, Emine; Bilgili, Naile; Karaca, Ayda; Deliceoglu, GokhanThe aim of the present study was to examine the screen time differences as an indicator of sedentary lifestyle in terms of some socio-demographic variables among university students. A total of 2209 university student (M-age = 20.80, SD = 1.61 years) participated in this study. The demographic information and screen time data were collected by using a survey form. The screen time refers to the combined time spent on watching TV/video, watching/playing/working on a computer, and playing video games. Two x three factorial ANOVA revealed significant gender and socioeconomic status differences in the screen time. The male students and those with a high socio-economic status had higher screen time. In addition, one-way ANOVA showed significant screen time differences in terms of parental education level and place of residence (p < .001). The students living in dormitories and those whose parents had lower education level had lower screen time. Also, the students who had an opportunity to access technological devices in their place of residence and in their bedrooms had higher screen time than the students who did not have these facilities (p<.001). The screen time as a sedentary behavior among university students is quite high and these findings can be taken into account as a warning indicating increases in the sedentary lifestyle of these young adults.Öğe The Determination of Physical Activity Levels of Trainers in Kastamonu, Turkey(Montenegrin Sports Acad, 2015) Gunay, Mehmet; Cengizhan, Pelin Aksen; Ozsari, MehmetThis study was carried out with the aim of determining the PA levels of the trainers working in Kastamonu in terms of gender and marital status variables.
