Öğe Retention systems used in maxillofacial prostheses: A review(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2019) Diken Turksayar, A. A.; Saglam, S. A.; Bulut, A. C.Defects in the face area caused by trauma, accident, tumor or congenital defects are treated with special facial prostheses. Besides esthetics, the most common problem with these prostheses is the retention of prostheses. In the present article review, the methods used for the retention of prostheses from past to present were researched, and the advantages of adhesives and implants, which are the most commonly used current methods, were evaluated. Current techniques, new materials, treatment options, and implementation procedures are described. The success of maxillofacial prostheses in meeting the expectations of patients and dentist doctors is increasing day by day with the development of adhesive material science, the emergence of technical knowledge, and the development of implant technology. Increasing the retention provides both ease of use and acceptance by the patient. Therefore, the chosen method for retention has great importance in the long-term prognosis of the prosthesis.Öğe Prevalence of Dentine Hypersensitivity among Adult Patients Attending a Dental Hospital Clinic in Turkey(Univ West Indies Faculty Medical Sciences, 2012) Colak, H.; Demirer, S.; Hamidi, M.; Uzgur, R.; Koseoglu, S.Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of dentine hypersensitivity (DH) and to examine some associated factors such as the initiating stimuli among adult patients attending the Restorative Clinic of the Kirikkale University Dental Faculty, Turkey. Methods: Questionnaires for 1169 patients, 678 men and 491 women, were completed and necessary clinical examinations performed during a one-year period and patients who were diagnosed with DH were questioned further about their occupation and smoking habits. Patients with at least two different quadrants which had sensitive teeth with sound exposed cervical dentine on the facial surface, were included in the study. The amount of cervical lesions, buccal gingival recession and initiating factors associated with the sensitive teeth were also recorded. Results: Of the 1169 patients examined, 89 were diagnosed as having dentine hypersensitivity, giving a prevalence of 7.6%. The commonest teeth affected were the upper premolars and the commonest initiating factor was cold drinks. Conclusions: The prevalence of dentine hypersensitivity in a postgraduate clinic in Turkey was 7.6%. The commonest teeth affected were the upper premolar and the commonest initiating factor was cold drinks.Öğe Temporomandibular disorders seen in rheumatology practices: a review(Springer Heidelberg, 2006) Atsu, Saadet Sağlam; Ayhan-Ardic, FigenTemporomandibular disorders are recognized as the most common nontooth-related chronic orofacial pain conditions. This article reviews the recent temporomandibular disorders literature and summarizes the temporomandibular disorders seen in rheumatology practices. Arthritis is a common condition affecting the temporomandibular joint. Although degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis are the most frequently encountered infectious arthritis, metabolic arthritis, spondyloarthropathies and the traumatic arthritis have also been reported. Distinguishing between different temporomandibular disorders is as important as the clinical course, long-term prognosis, and therapy. Diagnostic criteria are generally based on signs and symptoms of the patient. The American Academy of Orofacial Pain established the first well-defined diagnostic classification. In addition, Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders have been developed using similar classification. In the treatment of temporomandibular disorders, conservative and noninvasive treatments are endorsed for the initial care of nearly all TMD patients because the majority of patients with TMD achieve good relief of symptoms with conservative treatment.
