Perception of Femininity of Mothers with Children with Special Needs: Prediction of Marital Dissatisfaction and Psychological Resilience

dc.description.abstractThe primary objective of this study is to investigate the perceptions of femininity among mothers who have children with special needs, while also assessing whether factors such as marital dissatisfaction and psychological resilience play a role in shaping these perceptions. A sample of 313 mothers, each with a child having special needs, was selected using appropriate sampling techniques. Data were collected through the administration of various instruments including a demographic questionnaire, the Femininity Perception Scale for Mothers of Children with Special Needs, the Marital Dissatisfaction Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. Statistical analyses, such as one-way ANOVA and regression, were conducted to analyze the data. Results indicated significant variations in scores on the femininity perception scale based on the mother's age, educational background, the age of the child, and levels of spousal support. However, hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that while marital dissatisfaction did not exert a significant influence on femininity perception, psychological resilience emerged as a significant predictor. This study is anticipated to make substantial contributions to the existing literature concerning mothers of children with special needs, shedding light on the intricate interplay between perceived femininity, marital satisfaction, and psychological resilience within this demographic.
dc.description.abstractBu araştırmanın temel amacı özel gereksinimli çocuğu olan annelerin kadınlığa dair algılarını incelemek ve evlilik hoşnutsuzluğu ile psikolojik sağlamlığın kadınlık algısının yordayıcıları olup olmadığını belirlemektir. Bu amaç kapsamında özel gereksinimli çocuğu bulunan 313 anneye uygun örnekleme yöntemiyle ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplamak için kişisel bilgi formu, Özel Gereksinimli Çocuğu Olan Annelere Yönelik Kadınlık Algısı Ölçeği, Evlilik Hoşnutsuzluk Ölçeği ve Kısa Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tek yönlü ANOVA ve regresyon gibi istatistiklerden faydalanılmıştır. Yapılan analizlerde geliştirilen kadınlık algısı ölçeğinin puanlarının annenin yaşı, eğitim düzeyi, çocuğun yaşı ve eş desteği değişkenlerine göre anlamlı olarak farklılaştığı bulunmuştur. Hiyerarşik regresyon analizi bulgularına göre ise evlilik hoşnutsuzluğunun kadınlık algısı üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi bulunmazken; psikolojik sağlamlığın anlamlı bir etkisinin bulunduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmanın özel gereksinimli çocuğu olan annelerle yapılacak çalışmalar için önemli bir katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
