Öğe Assessment of antibacterial activity of EndoREZ(Mosby-Elsevier, 2006) Eldeniz, Ayce Ünverdi; Erdemir, Ali; Hadimli, Hasan Hüseyin; Belli, Sema; Erganis, OsmanObjective. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate antibacterial activity of a new resin based sealer, EndoREZ in comparison with 5 other sealers: AH 26, Diaket, Sultan, Apexit, and RoekoSeal. Study design. The effect of 6 different sealers oil the growth of 3 bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) was measured using the agar diffusion test (ADT) and direct contact test (DCT). For ADT, 200 mu L bacterial suspensions were spread oil agar plates and freshly mixed sealers were applied to uniform wells punched in the agar. The zones of inhibition of bacterial growth were measured at 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days, and 10 days. For DCT, 2 sets of sealers were prepared: fresh and 24-hour samples. Fresh samples were used within 20 minutes of mixing time while 24-hour samples were allowed to set it) a humid atmosphere at 37 degrees C for 24 hours before testing. Sealers were mixed and placed oil the walls of microliter plate wells and 10-mu L bacterial Suspensions were allowed to directly contact the sealers for I hour. Fresh media were added and 15 mu L were transferred from this plate to another plate containing fresh medium (215 mu L). Bacterial growth of this last plate was then measured using spectrophotometer every hour over 16 hours. Results. ADT results indicated that EndoREZ, Apexit, and RoekoSeal did not show any, antibacterial activity. In DCT results, AH 26 and Sultan were potent bacterial growth inhibitors. Conclusion. EndoREZ is not as potent a bacterial growth inhibitor as Sultan and AH 26.Öğe Effect of EDTA and citric acid solutions on the microhardness and the roughness of human root canal dentin(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2005) Eldeniz, Ayçe Ünverdi; Erdemir, Ali; Belli, SemaThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of citric acid and EDTA solutions on the microhardness and the roughness of human root canal dentin. Forty-five human teeth sectioned longitudinally were used. Specimens were randomly divided into three groups of 30 teeth each and were treated as follows: (a) one molar (19%) citric acid (C6H8O 7) for 150 s followed by 5.25% NaOCl; (b) 17% EDTA for 150 s and rinsed with 5.25% NaOCl; (c) rinsed with distilled water and served as control. Three groups were then divided into two subgroups of 15 specimens each. The specimens, in first subgroup were subjected to Vicker's testing whereas the second subgroup underwent surface roughness testing. The results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. Significant differences were observed in microhardness among the test groups, citric acid group being the least hard (p 0.05). Also, citric acid significantly increased surface roughness.Öğe The effect of fibre insertion on fracture resistance of root filled molar teeth with MOD preparations restored with composite(Wiley, 2005) Belli, Sema; Erdemir, Ali; Özçopur, M.; Eskitasçıoğlu, GürcanAim To evaluate the effect of using flowable composite with or without leno woven ultra high modulus polyethylene fibre reinforcement on fracture resistance of root filled mandibular molars with mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) preparations. Methodology Sixty sound extracted human mandibular molars were randomly assigned to five groups (n = 12). Group 1 did not receive any preparation. From groups 2 to 5, the teeth were root filled and MOD preparations were created. Group 2 remained unrestored. Group 3 was restored with a dentine bonding system (DBS; SE Bond, Kuraray, Japan) and composite resin (CR) (AP-X; Kuraray). In group 4, flowable composite resin (Protect Liner F; Kuraray) was used before restoring teeth with CR. In group 5, leno woven ultra high modulus polyethylene ribbon fibre (Ribbond, Seattle, WA, USA) was inserted into the cavities in a buccal to lingual direction and the teeth were then restored with DBS and CR. After finishing and polishing, the specimens were stored in 100% humidity at 37 degreesC for 1 day. Compressive loading of the teeth was performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm min(-1). The mean load necessary to fracture the samples were recorded in newtons (N) and were subjected to analysis of variance (anova) and Tukey post-hoc test. Results The mean load necessary to fracture the samples in each group were (in N): group 1: 1676.75 +/-154.63(a), group 2: 376.51 +/- 37.36(b), group 3: 733.23 +/- 133.33(c), group 4: 786.48 +/- 145.34(c), group 5: 943.63 +/- 121.15(d). There were statistically significant differences between the groups annotated with different letters. Conclusions (i) Use of flowable composite resin under composite restorations had no effect on fracture resistance of root filled molar teeth with MOD preparations, (ii) use of polyethylene ribbon fibre under composite restorations in root filled teeth with MOD preparations significantly increased fracture strength.Öğe Effect of temporary filling materials on repair bond strengths of composite resins(Wiley-Liss, 2008) Erdemir, Ali; Eldeniz, Ayce Unverdi; Belli, SemaEndodontic access cavities sometimes can be prepared through a permanent composite restoration. Between the appointments, temporary cements are used to seal access cavities and may have negative effect on bonding of further composite restoration. The purpose of this study was to compare shear bond strength of composite to composite which had been in contact with various temporary filling materials. Standard cavities were prepared on 160 acrylic resin blocks, obturated with composite resin (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray, Japan) and randomly divided into eight groups (n = 20). Group 1 received no treatment. From group 2-8, composite surfaces were covered with the following cements temporarily: Zinc-oxide/calcium-sulphate (Cavit-G, ESPE, Germany), two different Zinc-Oxide-Eugenol materials (ZnOE, Cavex, Holland and IRM, Dentsply, USA), Zinc-phosphate cement (Adhesor, Spofa-Dental, Germany),Zinc-polycarboxylate cement(Adhesor-Carbofine,Spofa-Dental, Germany), Glass-Ionomer-Cement (Argion-Molar, Voco, Germany), or light curing temporary material (Clip, Voco, Germany). The cements were removed mechanically after 1 week storage in distilled water at 37 degrees C and composite surfaces were treated with a self-etch adhesive system (SE-Bond, Kuraray, Japan). Composite resin build-ups were created on composite surfaces. Shear bond strength values were measured using universal testing machine at crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The data was calculated in MPa and statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. Eugenol-containing cements significantly reduced shear bond strengths of composite to composite (p < 0.05), while the other temporary materials had no adverse effect on shear bond strength (p > 0.05). These findings suggested that temporary filling materials except eugenol-containing materials have no negative effect on composite repair bond strengths. (c) 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Öğe Farklı bonding sistemlerin kompozit rezinin amalgama bağlanma dayanımı üzerine etkisi(2005) Erdemir, Ali; Eldeniz, Ünverdi Ayşe; Arı, Hale; Belli, SemaAmaç: Restorasyonların onarımı, yenileme işlemine göre dis dokularına gelecek travmayı azaltma, sağlıklı dis dokularını koruma, hasta koltuğunda geçen süreyi azaltma ve daha ekonomik olma gibi avantajlara sahiptir. Bu çalışmanın amacı farklı bonding sistemler kullanılarak kompozit rezinin amalgam restorasyona bağlanma dayanımının in vitro olarak değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: 5x2.5 cm uzunluğunda 60 adet ahilik rezin blok hazırlandı. Bu bloklar üzerinde 5 mm çapında ve 3 mm derinliğinde kaviteler açıldı ve bu kaviteler amalgam ile dolduruldu. 24 saat bekletildikten sonra restorasyon yüzeyleri 600, 800 ve 1200 nolu su zımparasıyla zımparalandı. Örnekler her biri 15 örnek içeren 4 gruba rastgele dağıtıldı. Her grupta amalgam yüzeyi farklı bir adeziv sistem (SE Bond, Prime & Bond NT, AQ Bond, İ-Bond) ile üretici firma önerileri doğrultusunda hazırlandı ve 2.38 mm çapında ve 3 mm uzunluğundaki silindirik şekilli plastik matriks içerisine kompozit rezin sıkıştırılarak yerleştirildi. 40 saniye ışık ile polimerizasyonu sağlandı. 24 saat sonra her örneğin makaslama kuvvetlerine karşı bağlanma dayanımı lmmldak hızla universal test makinesinde ölçüldü. Bağlanma dayanım değerleri Megapaskal olarak hesaplandı ve sonuçlar istatistiksel olarak Kruskal Wallis tek yönlü Varyans ve Tııkey testi kullanılarak analiz edildi. Bulgular: SE Bond diğer bonding sistemlerine göre daha yüksek dayanımı gösterdi (p0.05). AQ Bond ve 1-Bond sistemlerinin bağlanma dayanımları arasında.ise istatistiksel olarak önemli bir fark bulunamadı (p0.05). Sonuç: Sonuç olarak SE Bond amalgam restorasyonların kompozit rezinle tamirinde en yüksek bağlanma dayanımı göstermiştir.Öğe Üç farklı bağlayıcı ajan ile uygulanan kompozit rezin kor materyalinin kron dentinine makaslama bağlanma dayanımlarının in vitro değerlendirilmesi(2005) Eldeniz, Ünverdi Ayçe; Erdemir, Ali; Belli, SemaAmaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Photocore kompozit rezin kor materyalinin farklı üç tip dentin bağlayıcı ajan kullanılarak çürükten etkilenmiş ve sağlam dentine in vitro shear bağlanma dayanımının değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada altmış adet çekilmiş alt büyük azı kullanıldı. Bunların 30 adedinde koronal bölgede okluzal çürük vardı. Kronların 113'ü düşük hızlı elmas separe yardımıyla su soğutması altında kesildi. Örnekler soğuk ahilik rezin içerisine gömüldü. Çürükten etkilenmiş dentin örnekleri çürük teşhis edici boyama yöntemleri kullanılıp, uygun aşındırma işlemleri yapılarak hazırlandı. Dentin yüzeyleri 600, 800 ve 1200 numaralı şu zımparalarıyla zımparalandı. Sonra her grup her biri 10 örnek içeren üç alt gruba ayrıldı. Kor materyali dentin yüzeyine 2.3798 mm çapındaki ve 3 mm uzunluğundaki silindirik şekilli plastik matriks içine sıkıştırılarak yerleştirildi. Örnekler bir hafta 37 C'de ve %IOO nemde bekletildikten sonra, shear bağlanma dayanımları lmmldak hızla universal test makinası kullanılarak ölçüldü. Bağlanma dayanım değerleri megapaskal olarak hesaplandı ve sonuçlar istatistiksel olarak iki yönlü varyans, tek yönlü varyans ve Tukey HSD testleri kullanılarak analiz edildi. Bulgular: Farklı adezivlerin çürükten etkilenmiş dentine bağlanma dirençleri arasında önemli farklılık bulundu (p0.05). Tüm adeziv sistemler çürüklü dentinde daha düşük bağlanma dayanımı gösterdiler. Sonuç: Clearfil Photocore ile restore edilen örneklerde kullanılan Clearfil SE Bond, hem çürükten etkilenmiş, hem de normal dentinde en güçlü adezyonu gösterdi.
