The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of anthropometric characteristics on functional movement scores (FMS) of adolescent athletes. A total of 176 licensed students (89 girls and 87 boys) aged 12–14 years old from a private school in Kırıkkale province participated in the study. The distribution of the participants according to age groups is as follows: 54 students in the 12 age category, 67 students in the 13 age category, and 55 students in the 14 age category. Anthropometric characteristics (height, body weight, BMI, and body fat percentage) and functional characteristics (right and left hand grip, vertical jump, flexibility, and balance tests) were measured. In the anthropometric characteristics, it was observed that height, body weight, and BMI increased with increasing age. Body fat tends to increase with age. There was no significant difference in anthropometric characteristics between genders, but girls had a significantly higher body fat percentage. When functional characteristics were analyzed, significant differences were observed between genders. It was determined that boys were more successful in the horizontal jump test, while girls were superior in flexibility and balance tests. In addition, it was observed that age had an effect on functional movement scores and increased with age in some tests. As a result, it was concluded that there are significant relationships between anthropometric characteristics and functional movement scores of adolescent athletes, and these factors affect athlete performance. These findings provide an important guide for monitoring the physical development of athletes and adapting training programs, and it is thought that studies aimed at improving these characteristics in training programs can increase the functional movement capacity of athletes.
