Processes experienced in listening differ with respect to the material that is listened to and the aim of the act of listening. This difference has paved the way for the emergence and use of various types of listening. It is necessary to define the type that fits the aim of listening in order for the act of listening to be carried out in a healthy manner. Discriminative listening, which is the least stressed type in the literature, is the subject matter of this study. The aim of the study is to present an activity proposal about how discriminative listening can be employed in the secondary stage of elementary education by putting special emphasis on this type of listening, which is the first type that an individual uses in the process of making out meaning by distinguishing the sounds of his/her native language.
