In seismically active regions, determining the dynamic properties of the local soil layer is an important problem for earthquake-resistant building design. In this study, the dynamic soil characteristics of Kovancılar (Elazığ) district center, located approximately 5 km away from the Eastern Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ), where seismic activities still occur, were investigated. For this purpose, 28 drillings and 20 multi-channel surface wave (MASW) tests were used in the region and a 1-D equivalent linear soil response analysis was performed. As a result of the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis conducted for the study area, the earthquake magnitude that is likely to occur based on a 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years was determined as Mw = 7.9. The target spectrum was determined for the bedrock level of the study area by using different attenuation relationships. Using 11 different earthquake records scaled with this target spectrum, 1D equivalent linear ground response analysis was performed with SHAKE2000 software on the ground profiles obtained from drillings in different locations. As a result of ground response analyses, ground magnification of the study area, ground dominant period, peak ground acceleration and spectral accelerations with a period of 0.2-1 s were obtained. From the drilling logs, borehole numbers SK-13, SK-19 and SK-26, representing 3 different soils The average surface acceleration spectrum of the profiles was compared with the Turkish Earthquake Regulation (2018) and Eurocode-8 design spectra. According to the results obtained, it was determined that PGA values in Kovancılar district varied between 0.41-0.68 g and maximum accelerations were seen in regions where alluvial soils were common. According to the data obtained, it has been determined that Kovancılar district is suitable for multi-storey buildings in the northern regions and low-rise buildings in the southeast and north-east regions.
