Pollen features of 30 species belonging to 22 genera of Asteraceaeae family were examined by light and scanning electron microscope. The characters examined differed significantly between taxa and it was determined that they have taxonomic importance. Amongst these characters, the pollen size, shape, tectum ornamentation, spines or spinules height, and presence of lacuna were remarkably important taxonomic characters. The pollens investigated are trizonocolporate, isopolar and with radial symmetry and suboblat, oblat-spheroidal, prolate, subprolate and prolate-spheroidal in shape. The largest pollenamongst the taxa studied belongs to Echinops orientalis and the smallest to Anthemis austriaca. The tectum is echinate, microechinate and partially smooth in the pollens investigated. In the species of Centaurea virgata, C. depressa and C. urvillei pollen microechinate and partly smooth; in Cichorium intybus, Scorzonera cana, Tragopogon pratensis, Sonchus oleraceus, Crepis foetida and C. alpina, Xanthium strumarium, Inula acaulis, Helichrysum arenarium, Conyza canadensis, Senecio vernalis, Anthemis austriaca, A. cretica, Achillea wilhelmsii, Onopordum turcicum, O. tauricum, Ptilostemon afer, Carduus nutans, C. pycnocephalus, Rhaponticum repens, Centaurea solstitialis, Crupina crupinastrum, Cnicus benedictus, Carlina corymbosa, Xeranthum annum and Echinops orientalis, it is echinate. Amongst the species with echinate pollen, in Cichorium intybus, Scorzonera cana, Tragopogon pratensis, Sonchus oleraceus, Taraxacum scaturiginosum, Crepis foetida and C. alpina it is with lacuna.
