dc.description.abstractGingival hyperplasia is a common disorder seen in patients with epilepsy treated with phenytoin. It is rarely seen in patients taking sodium valproate therapy. Especially in mentally retarded patients, poor oral hygiene causes to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and inflammation might be occurs. Connective tissue increases due to inflammation and gingival hyperplasia is seen. We report a case of gingival hyperplasia due to valproic acid use to draw attention to rare adverse effect of this drug.en_US
