Kontrol grubu ile kıyaslandığında, deney grubunun TGMD-II performansındaki anlamlı iyileşmeler, 12 haftalık temel cimnastik antrenmanının her 2 yaş gurubundaki çocukların kaba motor becerileri üzerindeki olumlu etkisini göstermektedir.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of a 12-week basic gymnastics training program applied during early and middle childhood on the skills and morphological characteristics measured by the Test of Gross Motor Development?II (TGMD-II). A total of 116 students participated in the study, including 20 boys aged 6 years with a height of 110.15 cm ±5.48 and body weight of 19.51 kg ±3.14, 20 girls aged 6 years with a height of 108.70 cm ±6.37 and body weight of 19.66 kg ±5.81, 46 boys aged 9 years with a height of 134.97 cm ±5.68 and body weight of 35.79 kg ±5.88, and 30 girls aged 9 years with a height of 136.85 cm ±7.75 and body weight of 39.35 kg ±10.03. Half of the girls and boys in both the 6-year-old and 9-year-old groups were designated as the control group, while the other half were designated as the experimental group. The anthropometric characteristics (body weight, height, BMI, chest circumference, biceps circumference, and thigh circumference) and TGMD-II (locomotor skill test and object control test) of the participants were measured both as pre-tests and post-tests. The TGMD-II test was administered according to the test protocol developed by Dale Ulrich in 2000. After statistical analyses, significant increases were observed in all subtests of the TGMD-II when considering the pre-tests and post-tests of both boys and girls in early childhood and boys and girls in middle childhood. Compared to the control group, the significant improvements in the TGMD-II performance of the experimental group demonstrate the positive effects of the 12-week basic gymnastics training on the gross motor skills of children in both age groups.
