Özet
Bu çalışmada Muallim Cevdet'in hayatı, tarihçiliği ve tarih öğretim anlayışı temel alınarak; Türk eğitimine ve Türk tarihine katkıları aktarılmaya çalışılacaktır. Aynı zamanda Muallim Cevdet'in nasıl bir karaktere sahip olduğu, hangi ilmi meselelere değindiği ve hangi amaçları şiar edinmiş olduğu vb. konular bu araştırmanın amaçları arasındadır. Muallim Cevdet yaşadığı dönemde Türk eğitimine ve Türk tarihine eserleri ve davranışları ile örnek olmuş bir eğitimciydi. Muallim Cevdet Türk eğitimine ve tarihçilik anlayışına yurtdışında çeşitli coğrafyalarda kazanmış olduğu pedagojik bakış açıları ile birlikte yeni metotlar kazandırmaya çalışmış ve döneminin eğitimcilerinden farklı nitelikler ile anılmıştır. Muallim Cevdet'in eğitimci ve tarihçi kimliği onu özellikle vesikaları korumaya yönelik teşvik eden bir şuura büründürmüştür. Muallim Cevdet'in belgelere ve arşiv alanına düşkünlüğü-yaşadığı yıllarda arşivlerle alakalı yanlış kararların alınmasına tepkileri dahilinde-onu bu alanda tanınmış bir şahsiyet haline getirmiştir. Muallim Cevdet'in literatüre geçmesinin sebebi; evrakları koruması, yerel tarih uygulamaları gibi konular olmuştur. Ancak popülerliğinin ötesinde kendisinin çok yönlü bir bilim insanı olduğu görülebilmektedir.
In this study, Muallim Cevdet's contributions to Turkish education and Turkish history will be tried tobe conveyed on the basis of Muallim Cevdet's life, historiography and his understanding of historyteaching. Accordingly, characteristic features of Muallim Cevdet, the scientific matters that he studiedand his life purposes are also explained in this research. Muallim Cevdet was a pioneer educator in Turkish history. He dedicated his life to Turkish educationand Turkish history. Muallim Cevdet established a unique path with introducing new methods andprinciples to Turkish education and historiography understanding including the pedagogicalperspectives. Therefore, his education characteristics gained abroad generates wide variety ofqualifications comparing other educators during his lifetime. His educator and historian identity provided a great consciousness for establishing the roots ofeducation as a field in Turkey. He is interested in documenting and the field of archives and thisendency made him a well-known figure along with his reactions to the wrong decisions about archivesin his years. The prominent reason of Muallim Cevdet is considered as one of the best historian whichwas the matters such as the preservation of documents and local history practices. However, Muallim Cevdet is a versatile scientist beyond his popularity in the field of history.
