Öğe Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerinin Amacına Uygun İşleyişinin Değerlendirilmesi(2011) Yumuş, Asuman; Toptas, VeliBu çalışmada Bilim ve Sanat Merkezlerinin amacına uygun işleyişinin burada görev yapan öğretmenler tarafından nasıl değerlendirildiği araştırılmıştır. Araştırma örneklemini Türkiye de bulunan Bilim ve Sanat Merkezleri’nden 43 tanesi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma tarama modeli ile gerçekleştirilmiştir ve 374 araştırma ölçeği üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre Bilim ve Sanat Merkezleri; öğrencilerin bilişsel-duyuşsal gelişimleri ve yaratıcılık gelişimlerinin gerçekleştirilmesi adına öğretmenler tarafından “katılıyorum” seviyesinde değerlendirilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin görüşleri demografik özelliklerine göre farklılık göstermezken yalnız Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi’ndeki hizmet sürelerine göre farklı olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca nicel olarak yapılan araştırmanın nitel olarak desteklenmesi amacıyla öğretmenlerle yapılan görüşmelerde Bilim ve Sanat Merkezleri’ndeki bazı aksaklıklar ve eksikliklerin düzeltilmesi gerekliliği görüşleri ortaya çıkmıştır.Öğe Classroom Teachers' Perceptions about the Use of Alternative Assessment and Evaluation Methods in Mathematics Courses(Turkish Education Assoc, 2011) Toptas, VeliThis study aimed to purport class teachers' perceptions on alternative assessment processes proposed by new Primary Mathematics Course Curriculum for grades 1 to 5. The study was conducted with the participation of 214 teachers in 2009-2010 academic year. The data were gathered by a five-likert-type questionnaire. The data's reliability (The Cronbach's Alpha) was identified as 0.86 and analyzed through descriptive statistics. The results of the study revealed that teachers' perceptions about assessment processes are in accordance with those proposed by the program. However, teachers' responses towards the statement of 'students should be provided with the opportunity to present their products in the class.' was generally identified as 'sometimes'. Nevertheless, this response does not match with the program and may mean that teachers do not perceive project presentations as an important assessment tool.Öğe İlköğretim matematik dersi (1–5) öğretim programı ve ders kitaplarında geometri kavramlarının sunuluşunun incelenmesi(2010) Toptas, VeliDers kitaplarında geometrik kavramların farklı konum ve boyutlarda ve öğrencilerin deneyimine uyacak bir şekilde sunulmasıyla öğrenmenin daha kalıcı olacağı savunulmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı ilköğretim matematik öğretim programı ve bu programa göre yazılmış ders kitaplarında geometri kavramlarının sunuluşunda boyut ve konum çeşitliliğine ne ölçüde özen gösterildiğinin ortaya çıkarılmasıdır. Bu amaçla matematik öğretim programı ve Bakanlık tarafından hazırlanmış olan 2 set ders kitabı serisinde bulunan geometri ile ilgili bölümler doküman incelemesi yoluyla analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular gerek öğretim programında ve gerekse ders kitaplarında geometri kavramlarının sunuluşunda boyut ve konum farklılığının sistematik bir biçimde ele alınmadığını göstermektedir. Matematik eğitimi açısından doğurgular tartışılmaktadır. TugceImplementation of emerging technology in sub disciplines of mathematics education provides a potential for educators to elaborate the capacity of digitized learning for human being. Spatial thinking is considered as a factor of scientific deduction from a multi disciplinary point of view. This paper reports a study aimed at exploring the effect of a 3D Modeling program on the spatial ability of the 8th grade students through an experimental research design. The study also focuses on the relation between the gender difference and spatial thinking. The study population was consisted of 82 8th grade students and divided into the control group (n=40) and the treatment group (n=42). The data in the study were collected through a qualitative research method. According to the findings of the research, the success rate of post test increased after the application in terms of differential aptitude, mental rotation and spatial visualization. On the other hand, irrespective of the relevant literature, female pupils were observed as better performers comparing to the males on post application of the measurement instruments.Öğe iTunes University: Potentials and Applications(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Celik, Serkan; Toptas, Veli; Karaca, TugceThis paper aims to introduce iTunes University as a service that can be used to design and distribute courses that supplement traditional print media. The scope of this research is the classroom teachers who work 4th and 5th grades in primary schools in Istanbul. The sample of the research is 268 classroom teachers who worked 4th and 5th grades in the 25 primary schools in Sultanbeyli district in 2009-2010 academic year. According to the results of the study, among the reasons of prevent the teachers from using the teaching materials, the most effective ones are The school is short of the required materials, Physical conditions of the class, are not sufficient to use the tools in math class. The other effective factor is Class size is not appropriate to use the teaching materials. There is no significant differences among the reasons of prevent the teachers from using the teaching materials according to their age and seniority valiables.Öğe Vocabulary learning strategy use of Turkish EFL learners(Elsevier Science Bv, 2010) Celik, Serkan; Toptas, VeliThis survey study aimed to examine vocabulary-learning strategies adopted by Turkish EFL students, specifically the frequencies and helpfulness ratings of strategy use, strategy patterns, as well as their change for students across different language levels. The study involved 95 tertiary level English as a foreign language learners. Data were analyzed statistically and the results indicated that the participants' general use of vocabulary learning strategies was somewhat inadequate and there was a gap between their use of strategies and related perceptions of strategy usefulness.
