Alpha naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE), a member of the nonspecific esterases, has been reported by various investigators to be present in the T lymphocytes, but not in the B lymphocytes (Higgy et al., 1977; Knowles et al., 1978, Yang et al., 1979; Basso et al., 1980; Muller et al., 1981). By demonstrating the presence of the ANAE enzyme it was envisaged to determine the ratio of T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of turkeys and also to determine the staining properties of the leukocytes with this enzyme.en_US
