Metaphor is generally defined as describing a phenomenon or a concept by the terms which are more familiar. Although the usage of metaphors as pedagogical tools is a recent issue, using them as a teaching tool is common for a very long time. Teachers not only use metaphors unconsciously to explain ideas, concepts and abstract things but also they apply some similar methods in their everyday activities. In this study that examines metaphors and their educational usage theoretically, the basic concepts about metaphors are examined and explained first. Then some commentaries on the educational and instructional usage of metaphors are placed. Moreover, some important points about the usage of metaphors for instructional purposes are explained.en_US
