Özet
History has been written within the framework of various ideologies from past to present. Since the 1930s, Turkish historiography, with its unique nationalist character, has been framed through the Turkish History Thesis. According to this thesis, the Turks were the "first race" to establish a "civilization" in "Central Asia." They were compelled to immigrate for various geographical and climatic reasons, and brought their civilizations to their destinations. These ideas or claims that shape Turkish historiography have also influenced the writing of Turkish music history. Reflecting this thesis, the Turks are thought to have established the first musical civilization in Central Asia and to have brought it to the places they migrated. Other nations are thus indebted to the Turks for this aspect of civilization. This study aimed to understand the effects of this thesis on Turkish music historiography and the divergence between historical-cultural facts and historical issues. © Osmanli Bilimi Arastirmalari. All rights reserved.
