Infections during pregnancy may occur at any time from the first implantation of the blastocyst to the point at which the mother gives birth and the period surrounding birth. These infections may also harm the fetus or neonate. Since bacterial infections during pregnancy often produce no symptoms, doctors need to remain alert to the possibility of infection and carry out sufficiently careful infective screening [1]. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
