Özet
This study aimed to assess the ability of prospective teachers to involve passive students in the lesson during practice teaching. The participants included four prospective teachers at Faculty of Education, Kirikkale University, Turkey. Qualitative method was used in the study and data were obtained by classroom observations. The findings revealed that prospective teachers usually followed a student-centered approach and approximately two thirds of the students participated in the lesson; however, made no specific effort to involve the passive and withdrawn students in the lesson. On the other hand, two of the prospective teachers were at times observed to use verbal encouragement to involve these students in the lesson, and asked them some questions about the subject and elicited answers at certain stages of the lesson.
